Perrie applied the final touches to her makeup, feeling a bit awkward because she never normally wore this much. The thing was, Perrie preferred more natural tones and a minimalist approach when applying makeup, but she had actually decided to follow her friend Katherine’s advice tonight for some reason.
Perrie placed her mascara down on the desk in front of her, shifting her eyes so that she could glance at Katherine through the mirror, who was currently stood behind her, putting some final loose curls into Perrie’s hair with a curling wand.
“I’m kind of nervous,” Perrie admitted shyly, not wanting to distract Katherine from her work on Perrie’s hair. Katherine quickly glanced up to look at Perrie before shifting her attention back to the blonde hair in front of her, not wanting to accidentally burn one of them.
“I don’t see why you’ve been freaking out about this party,” Katherine mumbled while she twirled a strand of Perrie’s hair around her finger, “you know everyone that’s going to be there, and I’m pretty sure they all like you.”
“Correction Kat, I knew everyone that’s going to be there. It’s been a full year; people can change a lot in a year. I feel like I’ve changed a whole lot,” Perrie said nervously, biting her bottom lip, totally forgetting that she had lipstick on.
“You say it like change is a bad thing,” Katherine said with a sigh as she placed the curling wand down on the desk, giving Perrie her full attention, “it can be a good thing though; it definitely is in your case! Look at you and how much you’ve matured. I’m proud of you.”
Katherine smiled reassuringly at Perrie, giving the girl’s shoulders an encouraging squeeze. Perrie tried to give Katherine a confident smile, but since Katherine was Perrie’s best friend she knew that the girl was still nervous. She would have sat Perrie down and given her a proper pep talk, but they were already late for the party as it was. Katherine decided to finish doing Perrie’s hair now and then calm her best friend down on the drive over to the party.
Katherine picked up the curling wand again and continued to touch up Perrie’s hair silently. Perrie sat in her chair, trying to calm herself down so that she wasn’t a complete mess when they got to the party. Perrie’s mind started to wander as Katherine was too absorbed in Perrie’s hair, not bothering to strike up a conversation.
Perrie just hoped with all of her heart that tonight went well and that she didn’t do anything stupid; she normally only saw all of these people once a year at this big summer bash. She didn’t want to do something foolish because she would leave all of those people at the party with tonight’s actions to remember her by for an entire year.
The people that would be attending the party tonight were all the same age as Perrie and Katherine. After the first time this party had happened, everyone in attendance had decided to make it a tradition; it was to happen every summer on the last day of June and every kid their age in South Shields was invited.
The first party had happened three years ago, as a sort of graduation celebration. There are two high schools in South Shields, and the popular crowds from both schools had always kept in contact over the four years. The second both senior classes from the schools had graduated, the popular groups had decided to throw a massive rager and invite every single student in their graduating classes.
One of the students organizing the event just happened to be the son of the richest man in South Shields, so he had instantly volunteered his family’s mansion as the location for the party. Since he was the one hosting the party, he determined the date which it would occur on, and decided to keep it that date every year because it actually worked out perfectly.
After that party that first summer, everyone had left to go their separate ways. The future had been calling, and the majority of the kids who had graduated were eager to face their futures and start an exciting new chapter in life. Everyone said their goodbyes that summer and left for different parts of the world, some in search of higher level education, some in search of jobs, and some just in search of a new direction in life.
