Mea's POV (Current Time - 2018)
I tuned out Tawny and Tink's chatter from the passenger side as I laid my head back against the headrest and closed my eyes, I am still having trouble believing we are moving back home. It's been 6 years since Tawny and I have lived there and visits being infrequent with us both having moved away to college, especially for me since I had gone in to avoidance overdrive, but now this chapter of our life was over with our graduation and to my surprise here we are full circle returning to our childhood home. Tink had driven the Demon Reapers MC's cube truck to pick us up from the apartment we had called home for the past 6 years, helping to load its contents that we were keeping into the back. It was scary to think how much I had missed home and the people there...and one in particular. I had spent these last 6 years doggedly avoiding him but in such a small town that wasn't going to be possible and I still wasn't sure how to feel about that. I can still remember the first time I saw him like it was yesterday...
---------FLASH BACK------------
Who would have guessed that they would meet their best friend for life in Primary school, but I did, as unintentional as it might have been. To be fair, we lived in a small town where the first 6 grades all attended the Elementary School and grades 6-12 attended the Secondary School so you were bound to meet someone you would be closely tied to for your formative years at some point but to hear my mother regal the tale as we grew up we were inseparable from that first day.
Although I do remember that I hadn't in fact wanted to go to school and protested quite vocally about not attending but as you can guess, quite unsuccessfully as my mother walked me to my classroom that first day. I knew that entering that room meant things were going to change and I wasn't sure it was going to be for the better so I was determined to not risk it.
As we entered the classroom my mother greeted the teacher, making polite chit chat as I slowly surveyed what was going on around me. There were several other kids already there playing with the toys in the classroom, reading or colouring at their desks. After a few minutes my mother bent down to my level and informed me she had to go, she reminded me of my manners and whose daughter I was, the only daughter of Mayor Murray and his lovely wife.
I rolled my eyes at the reminder having heard the same thing likely since the day I was born. Don't get me wrong I love my parents and to be honest I was a spoiled only child that was bent on mischief, but with no siblings to occupy my time (not because my parents didn't want any they were just unable to have any and had been lucky to get me)it likely was more than the average child.
My mother to her credit even though she was already running late for her charity appointment took the time to ensure I was comfortable being left.
"Mea, I know you don't want to be here but can you give it a chance for mommy?"
With a deep sigh of long suffering that only a kid can pull off to their parents in just the right way, "Yes mommy."
She gave me a quick kiss on the forehead and a gentle squeeze on the arm and was gone.
I still wasn't sure about the whole school thing, opting to observe the other children and the goings-on in the classroom for the morning from my assigned desk. Lunch was a noisy affair with so many children in the cafeteria but I made short work of it and putting my lunch bag back into my classroom made my way outside for recess. I wandered around aimlessly for a while trying to decide if there was something I wanted to try between the swings, play structures, monkey bars and other playground games that were available but my attention was caught when I spied the shy little girl from my class. She had read quietly at her desk for the morning, not active with the other children in the classroom either.
