Chapter ♞ 7: Science Project of Doom

You stared into two accusing eyes, shocked at what you just did. Kaoru's mouth moved but you couldn't make out what he was saying.

"I- I..."

Kaoru waved his hand in front of your face. "Hello? Anyone in there?"

You dropped your eyes down to the floor. "I'm so sorry... I thought you were..." you said, then sprinted out of the cafeteria as fast as you could, before he could say anything else.

You quickly made your way to the bathroom, running through the doors.

God, I am so stupid. 

You looked up at yourself in the mirror. There was a deep red blush on your face and your hair was slightly disheveled from running.

"Y/N? What the hell happened?" You turned around to see Rima standing there, looking very confused.

"I just made myself look like a complete idiot in front of at least thirty people."

"Thirty? It looked more like fifty." Rima brings her hand up to her chin in a pondering manner.

You give her a deadpan look. "That doesn't help."

"Oh. Heh, sorry (nickname)."

"Yeah, I don't think I'm gonna eat lunch. l I kinda lost my appetite."

You turns towards the door. "Sorry Y/N, but I'm starving. I wouldn't miss lunch for the world." She nods towards you and walks out the door.

I guess I'll just wait in here until lunch period is over. 

You place your back up against the wall and slide down to the floor, pulling out your phone.

You pull out your science textbook from your locker, shutting and starting off down the hallway. You were absolutely dreading this class, as you had it with Hikaru and Kaoru. After that incident earlier... Let's just say you'd rather go to math.

You make your way to the classroom, very slowly, and walk in, careful to keep your head down. You take your seat as close as you can, in the back of the classroom and sit, careful to keep your focus anywhere but the twins.

You hear your name get called from across the classroom. You turn your head to see Hikaru (your assuming it's not Kaoru because he wouldn't want to talk to you anyway, especially with a smile on his face), waving with a cheery look towards you.

Right before you can say something, your teacher begins his lesson, something about the tectonic plates moving and causing earthquakes. Your brain automatically zones out, instead choosing to think about that delicious cake you have at home.

"So that's why I'm going to pair you up as partners for this project."

Project? Why do I always zone out when there's something important?

"I have my list compiled here. Hold on..." your teacher pauses to look through some stacks of paper. "Aha, let's start. So first, Rae Penburg and Joan Telia."

Man, I hope I don't get someone I hate. You automatically thought.

So far your luck hasn't been the best, and the last time you got a partner you were stuck with Kyoya.

"Dean Moriarty and Anthony Smith. Hikaru Hitachiin and Y/N L/N..."

You begin to ignore Mr. Who-gives-a-donkey's-ass and whip your head to the twins.

Kaoru looks pissed beyond belief, glaring at you with malice in his eyes. Hikaru offers you a smile, and you offer him a weak one back.

The rest of the class is torture as you keep your eyes focused on the clock, feeling two pairs of eyes trained on your back. The bell finally rings and you hurriedly gather your things in an attempt to escape an awkward conversation.

Sadly, your feeble attempt wasn't enough, and as you begin to walk out the door you feel a hand on your shoulder. "Y/N, wait! Please." You turn to see Hikaru standing in front of you, holding a few papers. "We need to talk about the project."

You sigh in defeat. "Yeah, alright. We'll talk in study hall. I guess we'll meet at Library 2."

He nodded enthusiastically and ran over to his brother, who still looked slightly pissed off. You begin walking towards your locker to get your books.

Ugh, Honors English.

You grabbed your books and headed off to class. Now you would have to stand an hour in the same room with Kyoya.

At least you hadn't bumped into Haru.

You hurried down the hall towards the library, turning a corner and entering the large room. You sat down at a table, waiting impatiently for Hikaru.

Your eyes meet his as he walks through the door. He makes his way towards you and sits down.

"So what exactly do we have to do for this project?" you ask, raising your eyebrows.

He chuckles a bit. "Were you not paying attention?"

"Not in the slightest."

He pulls a folder out of his book bag, labeled Science Project. "Essentially, all we have to do is make a clay volcano. It has to be able to erupt and be as realistic as possible. I think we got assigned one of the easier ones!" He confirms, handing you a sheet of paper. He smiled and his rosy cheeks showed dimples.

You read it over carefully, nodding your head, trying to not get distracted from his face. "This will be easy. I guess we'll have to do it this weekend. Though, I don't know where."

His eyes brighten up at a thought. "Let's do it at my house!" He exclaims with a bright smile, earning a shush from the librarian.

You run your hand through your H/C hair, unsure about the idea. You know that Kaoru doesn't like you very much (you don't even know why) and it would be somewhat awkward for you, even if Kaoru wasn't.

"I don't know... I don't really think your brother likes me very much..." you trail off at the end, afraid of offending him.

His eyebrows furrow, his face then brightening back up. "He won't be here this weekend! He has to help our grandma with some stuff a few towns over."

"I suppose I could then, only if I'm not intruding." You're still somewhat opposed to the idea.

"Of course not. My mom and dad are away on a business trips so I'll be all alone anyway. In fact..." he trails off, searching through his bag for something else. He pulls out a blank piece of paper with a little aha, and scribbles some numbers down. He hands you the piece of paper, which you learn has his phone number written on it.

"If you'll text me so I can have your number, then I can text you my address. But I really have to get going, the Host Club calls!" he ends with an apologetic smile and speeds out of the door.

This is going to be an interesting weekend.
