LAUREN'S POV
As soon as the plane had landed, I whipped my phone out to see if Y/N had responded to my message. When I saw she had, I scanned over the message as I made my way out of the plane and into the main airport. My eyes squinted at her excuse because there was no reason in my mind why Y/N would say that. She knew how much time we had left and it happened so suddenly. She had to have seen someone behind me because it was only after she seemed alarmed that she started pushing me away. I don't know who it was that she had seen but they caused me precious time with my girlfriend before I had to leave. I honestly didn't get enough kisses to last me the time we were supposed to be away from each other.
Maybe Y/N had seen someone that she had an affair with. Could she be cheating on me? My eyes widened at the thought and I immediately called my girlfriend. "Hello?" Her husky voice answered. The more I paid attention, I could tell that she was breathing heavier than usual. Why would she be breathing so heavily if she weren't having sex with someone? There was so many thoughts racing in my head I did't realize I had zoned out until Y/N had to call my name to gain my attention back. "Lauren? Are you okay?" Y/N asked. I cleared my throat and apologized to the person I had almost run into on my way to baggage claim.
"Who was the person you saw right before you told me to leave?" I started off right away. I couldn't find it in myself to beat around the bush when this was so important to me. I had to know what was going on for the sake of sanity. "You looked behind me and saw somebody, that's why you pushed me away. Who did you see?" I reiterated, trying to fill the silence in the air my mind seemed to create. The longer the silence persisted, my mouth began to spit out the words that had been on my mind. "Are you cheating on me? After everything we've been through? I thought we were working on our issues, and now you go and do this?"
"Lauren, there is no way in hell I would cheat on you so I don't know where you came up with this. You were the one trying to comfort me about everything but now I'm getting accused of cheating? I didn't see anyone I was having an affair with! My fucking father showed up at the airport with one of his goons and I wanted you out of there before he decided to try to do anything to you. I wanted you to leave because I knew he wouldn't be able to reach you once you were past security check. I was worried for your safety, not because I was worried you'd see some girl you think I'm with because that's not true at all." Y/N rose her voice towards the end and I instantly felt the guilt rise in my chest. I should have never thought Y/N could cheat on me.
But the more I analyzed her answer, I realized there was a lot more to this than I thought. If Greg was really at the airport, we were in a lot more trouble than before. In my head, I didn't really realize this was more serious than ever; it was almost like I believed we had left this all back in high school. Being away for over four years really did take me out of the mindset that this was life-threatening for the both of us, if not for Y/N more than ever. If he was willing to show up in such a crowded place such as an airport, there was no telling what else he was willing to do to hurt Y/N in any way he could. As cocky as it sounded, he knew that hurting me would also hurt Y/N in the end because she truly did care for me, more than any one of us would like to admit.
It wasn't until Y/N had to call my name several times that I was knocked out of my daze back into reality. I also realized that my bag had finally come around the conveyor belt so I quickly grabbed it before tuning back into the conversation with Y/N. "I'm sorry, Y/N. There's so much going on and I know that's no excuse to accuse you of something like that but I couldn't help my mind from going straight to that. Then when I called you, you were breathing all heavy and I was talking before I could stop myself." I tried to explain after the thick silence was becoming too much for me. I looked for the driver that was supposed to be picking me up while waving at fans on my way once I found him.
