Observation 7
Peter Parker is a lot tougher than he looks.↯
As the alarm ringing woke Nellie from a deep sleep, she slowly sat up and let out a yawn. Now, she really regretted staying up so late, as she was sure everyone else in New York did.
Footage from the local deli being blown to bits was all over the news the previous night, and Spider-Man's heroic attempts at stopping another robbery were all caught on security footage. She was sure everyone would be talking about it at school, especially since one of the weapons one of the robbers had turned out to be linked to the Battle of New York that happened several years back, in which a majority of the Avengers took place in.
Once dressed and ready for school, Nellie reread the text message she had sent Peter last night.
Are you seeing what's on the news right now?
Still no response.
She let out a tired sigh and shoved her phone in the back pocket of her blue jeans. She'd scold him at school for falling asleep so early last night and leaving her to obsess over the updated Spider-Man info alone.
Luckily, the weekend was just a mere 8 hours away, then she and Peter would have the entire weekend to pass while waiting for Mr. Stark to get in touch with Peter about her story. He'd sent it to Happy four days earlier, yet they still heard nothing. She was honestly worried about Happy reading it first, but Peter promised her that Happy had no interest whatsoever in her story. He just had to forward it to Mr. Stark himself because Peter didn't have direct contact on his own.
"Peter!" Nellie spotted her friend instantly once she'd made it to school. He was walking down the hallway towards Psych class with his hood up, but Nellie recognized his light blue hoodie instantly.
He didn't turn around.
Nellie looked around, her cheeks turning pink as she realized people were staring at her after she yelled and was ignored. She hurried down the hallway to catch up with him and laid a hand on his shoulder.
Peter flinched beneath her touch and spun around on his heels. Now that he was facing her, she realized he had earphones blasting music in his ears. Her gaze also fell on the purple and red bruising around one of his soft brown eyes. She felt a pang in her chest.
"What in the hell happened to your face, Parker?"
"Nell," he warned, but he was too late.
She'd already began dragging him down one of the side hallways and into the ladies room, where girls scurried out in confusion once Nellie and Peter had entered.
