Slight AU in which Ron and Hermione are not together (obviously), this takes place after the battle of Hogwarts

Hermione's POV

I entered the Muggle library and looked around, smiling. It had been a long time since I had been in one and the lack of magic was refreshing. It's nice to go back to your roots every once in a while.

I started walking through the aisles of books, searching for one that caught my eye.

There. A paperback with a beautiful picture of a dragon on the cover. Eragon. I had never read it before and I was curious. So I pulled it off the shelf and made my way over to a table, where I promptly sat and started reading.

I was several chapters in when I decided to take it home and continue reading from the comfort of my bed. Walking home, I looked around and admired the beauty around me, it was difficult to believe that only two months ago a terrible war raged on. Thinking about it made me sad though, so I just continued to admire the beauty.

When I got home I went into the kitchen and grabbed a water bottle from the refrigerator then made my way to the living room. Curling up in my favorite chair, I opened up the book and continued reading.

I must have been reading for quite a while because the next thing I know I'm already half way through the book. I decided to finish the chapter I was on before going to bed, as it was already 11:30ish and I needed sleep.

As I was closing the book I saw something written in pen in the top right corner. Opening the book back all the way I examined it in the light from my lamp.

It was a phone number.

I was a little ticked off at whoever had written in the number for defacing the book. And despite the time I decided to give the number a call, just to give them a piece of my mind.

Once the phone was ringing I realized how stupid I was being, I think I only did it because I was tired and it was easy to get me angry nowadays. I couldn't back out now though, because the person had answered.

"Hello?" The person asked, waiting patiently for an answer.

I realized very quickly that I didn't even know what to say, I didn't know who this person was or how to approach the topic. I decided I wanted to just get straight to the point, but I still didn't know what I was going to say.

"Hello?" They asked once more.

"You can't do that." I forced the sentence to leave my lips against every fiber of my being telling me not to.

"I'm sorry, who is this?" The stranger asked semi politely.

"You can't just write in a book like that." I said, cringing at my self for being such an idiot.

"Wait..." A pause, "Are you talking about the book Eragon?" The person asked, chuckling lightly.

I hesitated, "Sorry," I said after a short pause, "I didn't mean to bother you, I'm just tired and got mad when I saw the number."

"It's okay, really, I wrote that there a few months back hoping for someone to call, I thought I'd be a funny conversation starter. And let me be the first to say, you did not disappoint." We both chuckled lightly.

"So what's your name?"

"My name's Hermione."

"Hermione...What a beautiful name."

AN:
Just the humble beginnings to an amazing relationship.

It's kinda short but I felt it didn't need to go any further. I'll be making longer oneshots as well so don't worry your pretty little head.

You can request if you want. You can tell me how much you love the chapters or how much you hate them, it's up to you, do what makes you happy.

I'll try to keep AN's short cause I don't like 'em that much either.

Who knows, maybe I'll see you around. 👋
