It came to my attention in the first part of this oneshot that this could be taken the wrong way so I wanna clarify a few things about this au. 1) Pedophilia is absolutely not tolerated, sometimes soulmates are several years apart but if they begin dating while one is still a minor it can and will be punishable with jail time. 2) You and Hermione didn't start dating until she was 18, before that you treated it as more of a friendship, getting to know each other and such. And 3) while reader has been alive for over 600 years, their body is still 18, so no creaky bones for you lol.
Anyway, on to part two.
"It's just that, I've been alive for centuries looking for you, and you're only 16."
I'd said that to her almost three years ago. Our first year and a half of knowing each other was spent getting to know each other. I told her about my travels and she told me about school, friends, and the mischief she got into. When the whole horcrux thing was going on, I refused to let her leave without me.
"I've waited too long to lose you now."
On Hermione's 18th birthday, she asked me if we could finally start dating. She asked me.
Of course I said yes.
Then the war, it was terrible, I was scared out of my mind with worry for her, halfway through the fight I ditched madam Pomfrey in the infirmary and went to find her. I didn't have magic, but I didn't spent over 650 years alive doing nothing. I picked up a sword from a suit of armor that had been destroyed fighting for the school and went after her.
I found her cornered by three deatheaters, she looked scared and didn't have her wand in hand. The thing about magical people is that they're good with their wands, but when faced by a physical attack, they rarely know what to do.
Drawing on skills I hadn't practiced in years, I struck. Slashing one across the arm, she dropped her wand in pain. I kicked it towards Hermione and swung at the next deatheater, he managed to dodge backwards before I made contact with his head. But he wasn't ready for the swift kick to his chest that came after. Off balance, he fell and scrambled away.
I turned just in time to see the last deatheater pointing his wand at me. As he began shouting the killing curse I thought for sure this would be how it ended. How poetic, to die protecting your soulmate.
But that wasn't the divine plan I suppose, as Hermione had noticed him, and using the wand I kicked her way, quickly disarmed and detained him.
We stuck together until the end, and despite the odds being stacked against us, we won. Hermione and I were luckier than most.
It's been almost a year since we started dating. In fact, tomorrow will be one year.
"Y/N, have you seen the book I was reading yesterday? The title is "Carry On?" She called out from the bedroom.
I answered back from the living room, "Did you try behind the couch cushions?" She entered the living room in a huff.
"Why would it be there?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Just check." I insisted.
She had doubt in her eyes but turned to check anyway, and, surely enough, upon reaching behind the cushion she found the book she was looking for.
"How'd you know it was there?" She asked in astonishment as I walked up to her, hooking my arm around her waist.
"You fell asleep there last night, reading that book. I put it on top on the cushion but it fell back when I picked you up." I placed a gentle kiss on her cheek, she blushed.
"Oh, sorry."
"No need to be sorry love, it was cute." I teased a little.
Her blush deepened as she lightly hit my arm, "Shut up."
"Never." I smiled, fidgeting with the ring in my pocket.
The next day was Hermione's 19th birthday, and our one year anniversary. And, if all went well, it would also be the day we got engaged. Originally, I was going to wait longer, maybe until she was 20 or so. But this past year I have fallen so deeply in love with the brunette that I couldn't wait any longer, to make her mine for the rest of our lives.
I twisted the ring in my pocket around with my index finger and thumb. We're soulmates, of course, but that didn't stop my nerves from making me shake the majority of the day.
Ever observant, Hermione noticed my nerves, asking if I was okay. I shook it off and said it wasn't a big deal but I think she knew that something was up. I just wasn't the nervous type.
After dinner and watching a movie, we walked home, taking a detour through the park. No one was really there, aside from a few other couples that also seemed to be on romantic dates, the sky was clear and the moon was big and bright. It was perfect.
I stopped us in front of her favorite pond, because that's where all the ducks like to be, and we watched them sleep on the other bank for a few moments.
"Hermione." I said softly, gaining her beautiful gaze.
"Yes?"
"There's something I've been meaning to ask you today, but I kept psyching myself out of it." My hand was back in my pocket, twisting the ring around in my fingers. She smiled softly and waited for me to continue.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves.
"Hermione, we haven't known each other all that long, but I've been waiting to find you for longer than most anyone can comprehend." I then got down on one knee, pulling the ring from my pocket as she covered her mouth with her hands, looking as though she might cry.
"I don't want to wait any longer, so, I want to make you mine, officially. Hermione Jean Granger, will you make me the happiest person of all time, and marry me?" There was a moment of stillness, where my nerves went into overdrive and for a moment I thought I'd asked too soon. Then she dropped to her knees with me, tears on her cheeks and a smile lighting up her face.
"Yes. Of course, yes." I smiled bigger in that moment than I had in my whole lifetime.
I carefully slid the ring on her finger then pulled her in for a hug. I finally had my happily ever after.
Yeah that's all I got, sorry for the super late update, I've been moving houses and technically (until September 1st) I'm homeless, which is fun :) I am in a house but I don't have my own address currently lol. That said I'm gonna be busy for a while with the move and general travel, so the next update will probably take a while, I'll try to get something out before September though, we'll see how it goes.
Stay safe, stay healthy. Love you guys.
See ya around
