8,949 people died in 2017, but history won't remember a single one.

It was called the Lakeshire Shooting. A group of shooters entered every school in state and killed almost every student. The remaining children were left racing through the blood-filled halls, begging for mercy. Half of the survivors ended up killing themselves out of the pure horror that still filled their minds.

Erik Destler was one of the teens that didn't die. Night terrors were almost expected whenever he fell asleep. Nobody asked him about it, since when they did, they'd end up with a black eye. It seemed that nobody would know what truly happened that day. At least from him they wouldn't.

That's where Raoul comes in. Handsome, rich, everything a boy his age could only wish to be. The violent attack barely seemed to effect him. All he did was give a few speeches about gun control, fake-cry on TV, and then get with twenty girls at the same time.

Raoul and Erik were polar opposites. They despised each other, and would do anything to get the other to slip up in some way. And the worst part was; both had fallen for Christine Daae.

Eventually, Christine had chosen who she wanted to stay with for the rest of her days. It was expected, who she chose, since they were childhood sweethearts. Erik knew it was coming since he showed up. So why was he so angry?

Maybe it was the pent-up anger that he still had from the shooting. Something that changed his life forever, and made him even uglier than before. Even if the scar was easily hidden, it didn't stop him from hating it with a burning passion.

Whatever it was, it was bad, and almost ended in a full-on murder. Only the three of them knew about it. Christine swore that she would never speak of it, and made Raoul promise as well. It was the fourth saddest event in Erik's life (and that's saying something!).

Now Erik "Phantom" Destler is in high school again. Things are different from before. Not everyone is nice, but they aren't as bad as they usually seem. He even found himself a new potential girlfriend.

So let's hope his lucky streak continues.
