Laurance's POV
I. Am. Suffering.
Extremely suffering.
You say one little thing and all of a sudden your best friend's brother has you by the throat, watching your every move.
I can't do anything without catching Vylad's attention. And it wouldn't be much of a problem if he didn't make it super obvious that he was suspicious of me.
Luckily, Garroth is oblivious, so I'm in the clear for now.
Not that I have anything to hide in the first place! I just...Vylad is...I'm not...
...
Anyway...
"Laurance." I hear Garroth say my name and I snap out of it. We're at what Gar and Vylad call, "the old park" to play soccer and hang out. We finished lunch a little while ago and still have some time to kill before dinner.
"Huh? What?" I ask, looking at Garroth who is now beside me in the middle of the field. He raises an eyebrow and glances in the direction of my goal.
"Are you feeling alright?" He looks back at me. "Vylad literally walked right past you to score."
I blink and dart my eyes to the smirking brunette watching us with this smart aleck look in his eyes.
Dang it.
"Oh. Uh, yeah." I glance back at Gar. "I'm just...having an off day today, I guess. I'm all good; don't worry."
He doesn't look convinced.
"What's the score?" I quickly change the subject, praying he goes along with it. He lets out a defeated sigh and I know I'm safe.
"Vylad's winning by two points. He needs one more till he hits 15."
I glare at Vylad with a growl. He just continues to smirk like the irritating brat he is.
Not really. He's a precious bean who just likes to get on my nerves sometimes.
"You're getting sloppy, Laurance." Gar smirks at me and my glare turns to him.
"Like you're one to talk. I beat you by ten points last time!"
"You remember that?"
"Duh. I have to have something to hold over your head."
He chuckles: "I guess I am better than you at most things."
I grin: "Don't push it."
"Yo, Laurance!" Vylad jogs over, the soccer ball under his arm. "We still playing or what?"
"Yeah. Garroth, quit distracting me!"
"You were already distracted before I came over. Don't blame me."
You were still the reason...
"Whatever! Now shoo and let me school your baby brother."
He rolls his eyes, playfully, and turns to head back to the edge of the "field".
"Good luck, Laur," he says and I let a small smile slip onto my lips.
"He's gonna need it," Vylad jokes, dropping the ball at our feet. Garroth laughs and jogs off.
"I'll make you eat dirt, Vylad," I jokingly challenge. He laughs.
"Sure." He thinks for a second, then seems to get an idea. "Say...I know it's late, but why don't we wager something? Y'know, so the winner has a reason to win?"
