Garroth's POV
Laurance throws himself face-first onto my bed.
"No more people," he mutters into the pillow. I giggle and sit beside him.
"They missed you, Laur." I run my hands through his hair.
"Yeah, I know." He rolls over to lay flat on his back. "I've heard nothing but that for the past three hours."
"Your life is so hard. It must be so difficult to have so many people love and care about you."
He smirks and swats me in the side: "Shut up."
"I'm just saying."
"Oh, whatever."
I lay beside him. He wraps an arm around me.
"For almost three years, I always figured that no one cared that I left, but they did. I heard it in their voices as they told me how much they missed me..."
I smile: "It was worse the first year."
He glances at me.
"I'd hear your name at least once a day. Dante and Travis were losing their minds wondering where you could've gone. Aph came over every day to ask me if I'd heard anything and to make sure I was okay. The street was a wreck."
"Wow." He stares back at the ceiling. "I never realized."
"Yeah. The only reason we didn't pull a Zane to come looking for you was because you didn't lose total contact with us. You still texted me and Aph. Plus, you said you wanted to be alone for a while and we respected that."
"And I don't have an insane, overprotective brother."
"That, too."
We laugh and it feels normal again. Like we've been here the whole time. Like the world feels comfortable again.
"Y'know, I was two seconds away from leaving the plane."
Laurance turns his head to look at me: "Really?"
"I...really didn't want to be without you again."
"Garroth..."
He holds me close and I bury my head into his shoulder. It's so warm and I just want to stay in his embrace forever. Nothing else matters.
"I'm sorry, G."
I squeeze him tight: "Don't leave again."
"Never, Garroth." I feel him kiss the top of my head. "Never."
***
I drift back into consciousness by the sunlight bleeding into the room. A tired groan escapes my throat as I really don't wanna move yet. I tighten my grip around Laurance...
...only to find that he's not beside me.
I jolt up in a panic, my half-asleep self scanning all around the room to see where he'd gone.
Then, there's a crash from downstairs.
"Dang it, Dante! Can you do anything right?!"
I breathe a sigh of relief. Laurance.
"Not my fault! Travis tripped me!"
"Did not! It was Taco!"
"That's low! Don't blame my dog for your failures!"
Laughing slightly, I pull on my clothes and quickly run a brush through my hair. Once it looks somewhat decent, I leave the room and head downstairs to the arguing voices below.
