Evan was on his way back to Jared's when he saw the boy again. The same tall, dark-haired brunette with the same Connor flare. Evan got chills. He was extremely nervous, but he knew he had to do this. Not just for Connor. (but for everyone.)
"E-exuse me?" Evan inched near the boy. The brunette turned and Evan really saw how similar the two's features ar-were. The boy bore the same heterochromia as Connor. Same facial structure. Same . . . everything.
"Um, hi? Do I know you?" the Connor Murphy duplicate said.
"Uh, yeah, um uh my names E-evan and, er, you look like-" Evan was cut off.
"Connor Murphy, yes I've been getting that all day. Who even is he? Some guy that moved a while ago-."
Now it was Evan's turn to cut him off. "He was my best friend. He died last year." It was hard for him to say those words. Losing Connor was just another thing on the list of bad shit that happened to him. Saying those words, for Evan at least, almost made him come to terms with Connor's death, even if it was just a little bit. It was a start.
"Oh. I had no clue, sorry bro. I never introduced myself. My names Alex. I'm new not sure if you could tell." They said with a laugh. Evan laughed a little, not much though.
This was freaking Evan out. He didn't think that he'd ever see Connor again, but it felt like he was here with him. "I, um, got to go. My friend Jared is expecting me." Evan said in a hurried manner.
"Oh, okay bye! Maybe I'll see you around?"
"Um, yeah, sure." Evan quietly walked down the block, planning on telling Dr. Sherman about meeting a new friend. Maybe this was a plus for him.
*Time skip*
As Evan stepped into Jared's house, all he could think about was telling him what happened. That and also that he missed him from the short 30 minutes they spent apart, but Evan wasn't going to tell him the latter.
"Ev?" Jared questioned from the other room.
"I'm downstairs Jare, be up in a sec." Evan answered before contemplating what to do. He ran through everything in his head: first he met someone that looked exactly like Connor and now he's about to stay the night at Jared's. He would say that this happens every other weekend, but it honestly it's more like every other year. Being 'family friends' and all really doesn't get you many sleepovers with your crush. Evan needed to make sure that he didn't ruin anything, he hoped he didn't at least. From what he could tell, Jared seemed pretty relaxed which made Evan both anxious and at ease mat the same time. He needed to make this right. He couldn't screw up.
Evan braved the stairs towards Jared's room, each step bringing him joy and doom, each step making him want to turn back, but he did it. He opened the door to Jared's room to see him typing on a computer. By now, Evan forgot all about what Jared was planning on telling him, but that didn't matter now.
Jared closed his laptop screen and turned to Evan. Evan wanted to tell him about Alex, about how he felt as if Connor's death was all his fault, how he'd wish he succeeded this past summer, but he didn't. Somehow Jared knew what he needed. He enveloped Evan in a hug. Not a 'family friend' hug, or a friend hug. Jared hugged the boy in his arms as if a lover would hug their other half. In a way, that is what happened, but the boys never knew that. They just stood there, in the middle of Jared's room. Hugging as if they were the last people on Earth. To them, it was all that really mattered.
