"I'm sorry." Their eyes filled with tears as they looked down at the ground. "I'm so sorry. I don't know how else to say it."
"Just 'sorry' isn't going to be enough," the other snapped, the acid in their voice making the other wince.
"What can I do to make it up to you?" the first person asked quietly, still not daring to look then in the eye.
"You can leave me alone," the second replied, "and you can stop trying to make it better. It won't fix what you did."
"I-"
"No. Get out."
The first person finally glanced up as if to say something else, but they quickly looked back down when they caught sight of the venomous glare they were given. They shuffled out of the room and quietly shut the door behind them.Author's Note: This was written for a prompt that I found that simply said "An apology". It was one among a list of over 350, so I might have more from that same list coming later.
