"Alan, unless you're seriously injured or on your way home, I don't want to hear it. You are perfectly capable of finding Scott a gift by yourself."

"Love you too Virg. So, funny story..."

"Alan... what did you do this time?"

"I met another one of Scott's enemies and he pulled a gun on me but a chick took the bullet and a bullet grazed my ankle and she took another bullet..."

"Alan, I need you to stay calm. Where are you?"

"In an alley between McDonald's and one of dad's buildings."

"You're in the alley by Tracy enterprises?"

"Yeah."

"I'm on my way. Keep the girl awake."

"I'll try."

Virgil hung up and Alan looked at the woman who had saved his life.

Her hair was a muddy brown color and pulled up in a high ponytail. Alan couldn't tell much else because of her red and blue costume.

The white eyes on her mask were closed and her breathing was shallow. The bright red of her costume was marred by the darker red of blood.

"We need to keep her breathing," Alan said.

The man stayed silent, completely focused on the woman.  Alan wasn't sure what to do. Wet splotches appeared under his mask's eyes.

"I can't lose you too, Annie. Not after uncle Ben," the man whispered, cradling her in his arms.

Alright, time to put my IR hat on. The teen placed a hand on his shoulder and crouched down.

"She'll be fine." He hated to say what he was about to say, because it jinxed the rescue every time. Including the first person he lost on a rescue.

"I promise." The masked man seemed to smile at him.

"Thanks." Alan just nodded, looking back at the girl.

Hurry up Virg.
