Chapter 14- Secrecy
Silence; that's what was happening in the car as Kael drove us forward. Right after my lunch, my shift ended and he insisted on driving us somewhere. I wasn't sure where, but I knew the road was familiar.
"Are you going to tell me where you're taking us?" I asked, leaning forward, observing tree after tree as we passed them
"No," he replied
I leaned back, "Okay," I pondered on that thought "where are we going, then, Kael?" I looked in his direction, smiling slightly
He chuckled, "I would answer your questions," he said "except that one. Be patient, witch"
I sighed at that, "Please stop calling me a bitch"
"I never call you that, Jaymes" he said, his eyebrows furrowing
"You call me a witch" I retorted
His frown stayed, "I thought you knew"
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued "That?" I asked, when he didn't reply, I spoke again "You thought I knew what, Kael?"
"That you enchant me" he looked at me, his eyes serious "the same a witch does"
"Do witches exist?" I asked
He turned his head back to the road, his eyes far away. I dragged my eyes back to the road, wishing that I knew what he was thinking.
What was he thinking?
"What are you thinking?" he asked
I grinned, "Why didn't you tell me?" I asked, referring to his shifting abilities
"These...secrets aren't supposed to be talked about, Jaymes" he said "You didn't tell me you disliked it when I called you by your- by the name 'witch'"
"I don't know why...but that name...I guess, it just fits me" I said, looking at nothing in particular
"Don't worry, we'll get there" he said. I could have sworn he meant more than just our destination
"Are you afraid of heights?" he asked, stopping the ignition on the side of the empty road
I frowned "No, why?"
I grinned, "Good. Follow me"
He led the way forward, past trees, and rocks and bushes. It took a while until we stopped. I pushed a branch away and walked forward to be greeted by the sight of a wide spread out body of water in front of me, the huge spread of bright blue clouds decorated the beautiful background for the green shade of the trees.
I gaped, walking next to Kael, "Where are we? This place is amazing"
He chuckled, now behind me "Look down"
I did and I gasped, stepping back. From behind me, he held me steady. We were so high up. A cliff, over water that seemed to be a thousand feet down, huge rocks right at the edges; you could guarantee a life ending fall.
I opened my eyes and took another peek, my heart beat rapidly as I gazed at the beautiful scene. It was amazing, but one wrong move and you'd be gone.
"How deep is it?" I asked him, afraid to know the answer
"The water is one thing, the rough waves, another and the rocks" was his answer "Jaymes, if I told you to jump, would you do it?"
There was one thing I was beginning to feel around him, the one thing I knew I shouldn't; Trust.
"Yes" was my short reply. I knew what I was putting myself into. But I was lying to myself. I knew that. I felt something for this stranger and I wasn't fighting it.
