Reid walked into Charlie's apartment, turning the light on in the kitchen as he dropped his stuff on the armchair. In the aura of light from the kitchen combined with the blue glow of the TV, he could see tears streaming down Charlie's cheeks, her eyes shiny as she stared at the screen, hugging Chocolate around the neck as she rested her chin on his fluffy head.
"Charlie, what's wrong?" Reid asked, coming into the dark living room.
She sniffed but then looked up, immediately startled from her TV-watching daze as she answered in a gruff voice, "I didn't hear you come in."
Reid ignored her comment and asked, "Are you okay?"
"What? Oh, yeah," she let out a little laugh, sniffing embarrassedly and wiping at her face. Chocolate lifted his head and licked at her face, and she smiled and ruffled his ears before continuing, "It was jus the movie. You know I get too into them, sometimes," he answered, grabbing the remote and turning off the TV.
He smiled and sat down next to her, petting Chocolate and asking, "What movie?"
"Green Mile, with Tom Hanks in it. Based off the Stephen King book," she replied, her voice sounding normal again even though she wiped once more at he dry tear tracks down her cheeks.
Reid smiled and grasped her cheeks in his hands, pulling her head towards him and kissing the top of it.
"Spence," she complained, pulling away and pushing his arms away, "I'm fine," she insisted.
"I know, but I love you, Charlie McDowell," he said with a smile.
"Enough to make me supper tonight?" she teased, but he laughed and agreed, "Sure."
