Reid hung up the phone, sighing as he dropped it into his bag. He braced his hands on the counter, staring at his face in the mirror. He could see Charlie staring back at him through tear-glazed eyes, her lips pressed together to keep them from trembling as she forced back another sob.
He should have stayed back with her and not taken the case, the team would have let him, but Charlie hadn't wanted them to know about the pregnancy much less the miscarriage, and he hadn't wanted to lie about needing to stay off the case. He should have, though, he thought, especially after that phone call.
Reid sighed and turned away from the mirror, taking a deep breath before walking out the door, only to almost run into Morgan as he casually straightened up from where he was leaning against the wall by the bathroom door.
"All right, Pretty Boy, spill," Morgan said as he walked along beside him.
"What?" Reid asked, feigning confusion. It was somewhat genuine, he hadn't thought Morgan could hear him in the bathroom but maybe, regrettably, he had.
"Something's been bugging you for a few days now, kids. You know you can talk to me about it," he attempted to offer casually.
"It's nothing you can help me with," Reid snapped, unintentionally mimicking Charlie's tone of voice right before she had hung up on him a few minutes ago.
"Reid--" Morgan started, but he got the hint and stopped walking next to him as Reid stormed off.
Morgan sighed and resolved to see if anyone else on the team knew anything about what was going on with him. Maybe he'd told JJ or Prentiss, but he suspected whatever it was it had to do with McDowell, and it probably wasn't cause she was sick like he'd claimed. They were a perfect match, both of them were excellent at keeping secrets and using ever avoidance tactic in the book, and then some, instead of talking about stuff. He at least hoped they'd talk to each other, but judging by Reid's end of the conversation he'd heard through the thin bathroom door, he doubted it.
