Review:

So many authors are afraid of writing about social economical issues (like drug abuse) and I commend the author for rising above them all. It takes courage to write about these things.

This book ripped my heart apart and pieced it back together so many times. It's heavily loaded with emotion — exactly what I want from a good romance.

The research the author did while writing this book, helped make the plot much more realistic.

The settings and characters are vividly described. I could picture them right in front of my eyes.

Brooklyn is a very unorthodox character. It isn't his appearance that elicits this opinion – I have met several people with bodies covered in colourful tattoos before – but rather his way of approaching Natalie. The moment they meet, he insists that he'll get her a new coffee and then, persists in finding her and keeping his promise (almost like a fairytale prince). He also just shows up at her house, without ever having asked her address (or even if she'd like to hang out). At first these actions seem very creepy, but after getting to know a bit about his background, they add a whole layer of desperation of wanting a friend to his character.

The state in which Natalie's room is depicted tells a lot about her state of mind. Knowing that she has to use antidepressants, the reader can not help but defer that she is suffering from some kind of depression. Especially in the beginning where there are times when she wouldn't leave her room for days. Brooklyn seems to brighten her mood and make her happy, but the fact that the state of her room doesn't change and she reverts back to staying in her room all day whenever she and Brooklyn has a quarrel, shows that she is not nearing recovering from her condition. But, maybe I'm interpreting this too darkly?

I like how the story doesn't entirely revolve around Brooklyn and Natalie. It shows so much more than that — their lives, other people and their feelings. It just makes it much more realistic.

I was disappointed to reach the last updated part and find that it's not the end — because I'd really love to read this story until the end! It had me hooked.
