"Mom!? Mikito!?" I closed the heavy door behind me and looked around the hallway of the house, waiting to see or hear them.
"They're in the garden." Anthony smiled as he gathered his things to leave for the day, the dirt smeared on his cheek.
"Thanks!" I smiled, jogging carefully through the big house and into the bright garden where the sun almost blinded me.
The two women were there, sitting under the gazebo in the shade from the burning desert sun, drinking handmade lemonade and smiling, laughing about the good old days. I ran over to them and hugged them both tightly from behind.
"Oh, you're home! How was the honeymoon?" My mom smiled, kissing my cheek.
"It was amazing! I don't know why I never went to Japan sooner, considering my love for the place and everything there. Greg loved it too. He's found a new love for sushi and noodles. The hotel was so incredible with this amazing view over the Tokyo skyline. I could have just stood there, on the balcony, and watched the city for the whole two weeks we were there for." I told them both, pulling the photos and small handmade gifts from my tassel bag and holding them out to them so they could share some of my memories from the best two weeks of my life.
"So when can we expect the first baby Sanders? I am expecting you two make at least three of them." Mikito told me over her small, square frame glasses as she glanced over the snaps in the album.
"We haven‘t talked about that yet. We‘re still young, there‘s plenty of time." I told her, hiding the uncomfortable look on my face at the subject.
"Young? Miki, you turned twenty seven last week! It's a year closer to thirty. Thirty is the start of the menopause these days. It's best to get started sooner whilst you're still highly fertile." My mom said sounding like an expert on the matter.
"Ooh, yes, you celebrated your birthday whilst you were in Tokyo. So, what did your loving husband surprise you with?" Mikito's old eyes were eager for details.
"He got me this necklace--" My face blushed beet red at the memories of my birthday as I fingered the delicate silver chain around my neck, the pendant that of a lotus flower; my whole honeymoon had been about my newfound love for them.
"...and?" Mikito pressed me for more details, knowing that there was a lot more to the birthday than just a simple necklace.
"Yeah, we're just not going to go there." I laughed awkwardly, remembering it vividly; the day of room service, endless pleasure and so much euphoria that the inability to move very well the next morning had been totally worth it.
"Oh, I don’t know. What are you two like? You won't have kids yet but you both jump at the chance to have plenty of sex." My mom sighed, shaking her head.
"Mom, relax okay, you'll have grandchildren. Right now, the two of us are looking for a small house that we can move into. We've both said how cramped his apartment is with all of our stuff in. Plus, there's no room for a baby there. We've been saving for a place for a while, and the money we got off you two for the wedding will be perfect for a nice little deposit." I smiled, hugging the two women once again in thanks.
I noticed Mikito giving me a scrutinising look and I glanced at my mom with confusion written across my face. She shrugged and I looked back at the Japanese lady.
"You are not telling us something Moon Child." She stated simply, her eyes still narrowed as she tried to break me.
"I--uh--what?"
"You are keeping secrets from us both. I have known you long enough to know when you are."
"I really don't know what you mean." I laughed, pushing my dark hair from my face and looking everywhere but at her.
