I finished emptying the final box in my apartment and at last I had a place to call home that actually looked like a place I could call home--as opposed to a store room like it looked a day before.
The shrill ringing of my phone snapped me out of the proud moment. I hit the speaker button and finished crushing the final box under my sneaker clad feet.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Miki!" Greg said happily.
"Hey Greggy Boy. What's up?"
"Er...I said I was going to call you today?" He reminded me.
"Oh yeah! What do you need? My darling company?"
"Uh, yeah, so anyway, where is this party tonight? I told Nick that I'd get directions."
"Oh! I forgot! I already arranged for you guys to crash at the place! That way you don't have to worry about drinking!" I told him as I flopped on my sofa.
"Glad you finally decided to share that with me! Are you sure there's room for us all? I mean I can get a cab no problem."
"Yeah, something I forgot to tell you. Ever heard of the dress designer Mikito Yokomaru?"
"Fashion isn’t exactly my forte Miki. I spend most of my time in latex. Yes, that did have a double meaning."
"Ew, thanks for that Greg. Anyway, she’s the Japanese lady I grew up with. The money she gets for one dress is like double our salary."
"Wow!"
"Wow, indeed!"
"So where is this place?"
"It's just outside of the city..."
I quickly gave him directions.
"And don't forget, 7pm and semi-formal! Oh, and watch out for my mother and Miki. I am almost 100% positive that they will be interrogating you all at some point in the evening. They like to ask questions. I think they should’ve been with LVPD and not me." I said.
"So no answers that can land you in trouble?"
"Exactly. And before you even think about landing me in trouble, just remember, I have the Boogeyman dirt on you."
"Consider the thought completely out of my mind. I'll see you later then, Miki."
"Bye, Greg."
I looked at the clock and almost fell off the sofa when I realised that it was already 4pm. I groaned and raced towards the bathroom to take a shower. It seemed like no matter what I did, I rarely ever had the time to relax and just have a bit of ‘me’ time.
"Moon child, will you get the door for me!" Mikito called as she carried the shrimp platter through to the room where the party was going to be held.
I walked carefully down the hall and pulled open the heavy door to be greeted by the familiar faces of the CSI's.
"Hey, you lot scrubbed up well." I said letting them all step in.
They were all there apart from Grissom and Catherine who already had their own plans for the weekend. To be honest, I was just relieved that someone had showed up to save me from a night of embarrassment. Miki and my mom knew exactly how to make me match the shade of the peppery pinot wine.
"I thought you said it was semi-formal?" Greg said looking at the olive dress that hung on my figure.
"This is semi-formal for me. If I said formal I'd be in some unbearable dress that I wouldn't have been able to move in." I told him with a laugh.
