Part 2
"It's Mrs. Springs here. Would Miss Maya Philips come to the principle office, please?"
I was in third period, math. Mr. Elkins wasn't a bad person. On the contrary, he was a nice and decent man in his late forties. It just wasn't his fault that two-third of the human population didn't enjoy math as much as Mr. Elkins did. Nevertheless, I never really dreaded the class as much as I did back with other teachers. Mr. Elkins had a way that can make you tolerate the class until the 40 minutes were over.
Mr. Elkins looked at me. Well the whole class turned in their seats to look at my shocked self sitting at the back of the classroom.
"Miss. Philips, you can leave" He was looking at me curiously.
I can imagine what he's thinking. What did she do now? Honestly, I wonder the same. What does the principle want with me?
I nodded at him and stood up feeling my shaky legs struggling to hold my weight.
Why am I nervous? I didn't do anything. I never do anything, really. Relax now. Maybe it's some misunderstanding or something. Nothing big, I'm sure.
I was right outside the principle office when a thought struck me.
What if it was Megan? What if something bad happened to her? What if...
I shook my head and slapped my cheeks then winced when I hit them too hard.
Megan is okay. She just went to have some fresh air. She'll be back. She'll come to my house after school and tell me that she was just taking a break.
I hope.
The principle office was big. Really big. I didn't understand what did Mr. Wayland need such huge office for? Oh well, each to his own I guess. I opened the glass door and the friendly smile of Mrs. Springs, the secretary, greeted me.
"Hi, sweetie. Come with me"
She walked to the wooden doors knocked twice before opening the doors and ushering me inside.
Two police officers were sitting in the two leather seats in front of the principle desk.
"Miss Philips, do come in." The principle ushered me in. Then he turned to Mrs. Springs.
"Thanks Mrs. Springs that would be all." Mr. Wayland said.
Mrs. Springs nodded with anther friendly smile and left the room.
"Miss Philips, these are Officer Winchester and Officer Deans. They have some questions for you. Come, sit down" He nodded to the other leather chairs that were near the doors.
I nodded and sat down.
Mr. Wayland was a good looking forty something man. He was strict and liked rules to be followed but over all I believed him to be a good person. The two officers, one tall and one slightly less tall, wore the same expression. No expression at all.
"Miss Philips, correct?"
The tall Officer asked looking at me.
I nodded. I didn't understand the need for that question since Mr. Wayland just introduced us but at that time and I didn't have any energy for any comebacks.
"You know a girl named Megan. Megan Miller?!" The tall Officer asked while the other one opened a small notepad with a pen.
I was sure any color was drained from my face.
