song - don't look back in anger by oasis | put on repeat

"it's okay, i'll see you at home." i kissed my fiancé roy goodnight as he attempts to leave the office after enduring casino night with the rest of us in the warehouse.

"okay, don't try to loose to much money, alright? we still want a honeymoon." he joked, causing me to playfully roll my eyes.

"hey, halpert!" he calls out as his eyes leave mine. jim stands on the other side of the truck, his hands in his pockets.

"keep an eye on her alright?" roy added, jim nodded. roy eventually sped off, and i caught up with jim. "hey, halpert." i smile, the moonlight shining down on the two of us.

"hey, y/l/n, how's it going?"

"good, especially after i took all your money after poker!"

his expression changes a little bit after a soft chuckle at my response. he looks at ground below him, a bit nervous for some reason. "can i talk to you about something?"

"about when you want to give me more of your money? did you want to do that now?" i cheekily grin. "we can go inside. i'm feeling pretty good tonight."

jim's awkward and yet nervous expression is still on his face. i become confused, my grin falling a little.

"i was just um...i'm in love with you."

time stopped, the smiles faded. it felt so surreal. nothing could've prepared me for this moment. it was completely unexpected. i was speechless, until i could form a single word out of my mouth.

"what?" i looked at him, my expression now similar to his own.

"i'm really sorry if that's weird for you to hear, but i need you to hear it. probably not a good timing, i know that, i just-"

"what are you doing?"

jim's eyes became a bit glossy as we continued to make eye contact. my heart ached as i grew conflicted. i had a fiancé that i was getting married to in the beginning of summer, which was very soon.

"what do you expect me to say to that?" i question, jim's eyes leaving mine.

"i just needed you to know once."

"well, i-i-i can't. and you know that." my right arm holds my left elbow. i loved roy, right?

jim seemed hurt, i could see it in his eyes. not just because there were tears about to fall from his hazel eyes that i've somewhat admired overtime. you can just tell.

the heartache was unreal.

"you have no idea-"

"don't do that." jim interrupted, a few unexpected tears escaping his eyes.

"-what your friendship means to me."

"come on, i don't wanna do that. i wanna be more than that." he sniffed, looking down at his feet once again. seeing him get emotional like this hurt really bad. it was like a wound that wouldn't heal.
