song - the less i know the better by tame impala | put on repeat

i walked towards the building with a single box in my arms filled with my essentials for my new job.

i hope that everyone's nice and i might be able to make a few friends.

don't mess this up, y/n.

"there she is!" a man exclaimed as i walked in the office, all eyes on me.

"uh, hi?"

"hello, y/n! i'm michael scott welcome to dunder mifflin, where dreams really come true!"

"no one has neither said that or even thought of that ever." a guy with short brown hair but long enough for it fan out a bit.

he was actually pretty good looking.

"ah, live a little, jim. our new receptionist is here." michael turned his attention back to me.

"you're very pretty. got a boyfriend?" he whispered the last part.

"no-"

"that's great news, maybe you could go out with jim and loosen him up a bit."

"oh please, she's no match for him." a guy with glasses and parted hair spoke up from his computer.

jim rolled his eyes and gave me a shrug in response.

"i'm gonna unpack. it was nice meeting you, though." i tried to escape the conversation.

and with that i did what any receptionist did. i returned calls and wrote important dates on the office calendar.

i got bored for a while and decided to doodle on a notepad. i was in art school for a really long time but never really did anymore art since.

"those are really good, by the way."

i perked up to see jim looking down at me from the counter, mesmerized.

"oh, it's nothing. i'm gonna have to pass time somehow."

"i really like them. i mean that copier looks really good." he pointed at the drawing surrounded by more office objects i drew.

"thanks. i really appreciate that" i smiled.

"we haven't been properly introduced but i'm jim, jim halpert." he held out his hand for me to shake, in to which i complied.

"y/n, y/n  l/n."

"well y/n  l/n, how about coffee after work?"

i was surprised to hear those words and my heart almost leaped up in my throat.

"i-that sounds great."

"perfect."
