It's Time

"Mom, I'll be fine" I say for the tenth time.

"Alright, just call once in a while, huh?" She asks for the tenth time on the other line.

"I will, but I'm gonna be busy for a few days, getting ready for college and stuff" I lie, as Zach and Amanda laugh, watching me roll my eyes at the phone.

"Okay, well, I love you honey, be safe"

"I will, bye" I hang up without waiting for her answer "Gosh, she wouldn't stop talking" I say, getting out of the car, which was pulled over on the road. I head to where they are, putting my phone aside.

It's sunset time and I gotta say, the view is beautiful. We're finally here, Seattle.

Why Seattle? Well, we were actually planing on some place else, like New York or LA, but we obviously don't have money to stay in New York or LA and as Zach knows a guy that rents really cheap apartments in here, the real question becomes: Why not Seattle?

All we wanted was just to leave the place where we used to live, this small town a little west from here. Being born and raised in such a place made me, for some reason, start dreaming higher than I should. Not dreams about careers, or building a family and living happily ever after. My conception of realizing a dream is simply to go away, to know interesting people, to discover new places and be able to stare at a beautiful view for as long as I want... As silly as it might sound, all I really want is to live an adventure.

But you can't go after an adventure when you have your parents around, unfortunately they'll always be there to drag you away from the mistakes and dangerous of life. So telling them that I got an opportunity to study in an University in here was my way out of the miserable life that I was living back home. I've decided that it's time for me to start going after something bigger.

To introduce the characters of my not so exciting life so far, I'll start by myself, Amber. Though I've already told my sad story of being a dreaming girl, physical characteristics seem relevant. I'm short, not blonde and not blue eyed, just simple brown and curly hair that turns into a complete mess every 5 minutes, not very long either, and light brown eyes. I'm quite skinny as well.

Then there's Amanda, my best friend since we were kids, thankfully she shared with me the dream of getting away. She's taller than me and has really nice blonde hair, that matches her blue eyes. She's pretty much just like a sister to me and we're together most of the time. That did changed a little after she met Zach, of course. Boyfriends have the ability to tear apart friendship sometimes, but luckily my friendship with Manda is bigger than boyfriends and luckily she is smart enough to choose a cool guy to date.

Zach is a little older than us, while we just turned eighteen, he's already twenty. He's quite a tall and big guy, also blonde and blue eyed, what makes him and Amanda look like they're brother and sister sometimes, and not a couple. Thinking that way is stupid, obviously, I'm just associating hair and eyes to kinship, what's a dumb thing to do. But anyway, he comes from a richer family than us, and he has a spoiled kid side. But it was nice of him to come along to Seattle, and if it wasn't for him we probably would have taken way much longer to leave.

The apartment is old and small, two bedrooms, a tiny living room/kitchen and a pretty disgusting bathroom. It's not like we care anyway. We simply throw our bags in our bedrooms and decide to get out again to walk around the city.

I wear high waisted shorts and a black tank top with converse and I get chills because of the slightly cold wind in the streets, but I don't mind. I walk a bit separated from Amanda and Zach, a bit lost in my own thoughts, when I spot some movement ahead of us, in front of a club. Apparently there are two guys fighting while a bunch of people cheer around them.
