"I gotta hurry, I gotta hurry," Jack muttered to himself, zippering up the back of his costume. He placed the screaming green hat on his head and looked in his bedroom mirror.
Jack was dressed as a demon leprechaun, which frankly, he thought looked quite impressive and grim. EVen if it wasn't, it's not like he'd have time to change his outfit. He had a Halloween Party to go to after all! He gave himself a brisk nod, and bolted down the stairs and into the living room.
"Sis! I'm ready to go!" Jack shouted, looking at his watch. He was extremely anxious he would miss the costume contest. There was a palpable feeling of dread and worry in his stomach.
"I thought I told you, I'm going to Wendy's with Amy," Jack's sister replied. "No! This can't happen, it's essential I get there in time!" Jack distraughtly thought.
"You have to! Ma said so!" Jack countered, but his sister was still defiant.
"Do not!"
"MA!"
Jack's Mom dragged herself into the room, her sleepless eyes evident. It was hard dealing with such rowdy children. Jack reminded Ma that his sister, Singe, was supposed to bring him to the Halloween Party at his school. Jack's Mom and Singe argued in a hushed tone. Finally, Ma sighed, and Jack knew that Singe managed to wheedle her way out of bringing him. However disappointing, he couldn't say it was surprising since his sister had an unreliable disposition.
Thankfully, Jack's Mom had an aptitude for working when tired.
"Get in my car Jack," Ma sighed, putting on a ratty robe over herself.
"Yes!" Jack cheered and raced inside.
They drove quickly to the location and thankfully arrived right before the Halloween Costume contest.
"Thanks," Jack hugged his mom, and met up with his friend, Mark, at the entrance.
"Dude! Sick costume," Mark said, cheerfulness in his eyes.
"You too! Ya look amazing," Jack complimented, taking in his Chucky costume.
"I'm going to win though."
"Are not! I'm far superior."
"Let's just see about that," Mark smirked. He opened the door for Jack and held his hand.
"We'll just see."
