Adrien walked into the school courtyard, still feeling a little bit shaken from the two nightmares he had to endure the night before during the akuma attack.

He'd been trying to deny it for ages but he had to accept the fact that he did indeed have claustrophobia. The thought of all of those bars slamming around him resurfaced in his mind, and he shook his head, trying to get the horrible thoughts leave.

"Oh my gosh, girl. That Adrien nightmare of yours sounds so creepy." Alya shuddered, imagining the nightmare that Marinette had just described to her in vivid detail.

"Yeah, I'm just glad that I didn't get hit by that crazy nightmare stuff last night." Nino agreed, thankful that his own nightmare hadn't been brought to life as Sandboy hadn't been near his house.

Adrien stopped in his tracks, freezing up at the mention of his name. He had been Marinette's nightmare?

'I guess that explains the stuttering then.'

He thought to himself, almost on the verge of tears. He had reasoned that they were making progress, that they were already friends and were becoming closer and closer as time passed by. But it seemed that he had been wrong.

As the rest of the morning went by, Adrien avoided Marinette, not wanting her to have to remember her nightmare featuring him. Every time he thought about it, he had to rapidly blink in order to take back the tears aching to leak out.

Too distracted by his thoughts, Adrien didn't notice that the bell rang, signalling that their lunch hour had begun.

"Adrikins!" A shrill voice shouted and the person latched onto his arm, yanking him away from his seat so that he was now stood up. He almost lost his footing on the small stairs in their classroom, but he managed to balance himself out before he tripped and fell to the floor.

He only knew one person who called him Adrikins and he would rather have avoided her today.

Chloé.

"Oh, Adrikins, my nightmare was horrible!" She complained, placing the back of her hand on her forehead as she exaggerated the events of her dream. "My hair was a complete and utter mess and my makeup made me look like a clown!"

If he hadn't been disheartened by underlying thoughts Adrien may have laughed at the thought of Chloé looking what she deemed to be ugly.

"What was your nightmare?" She asked as they walked out down the stairs and into the main courtyard, Adrien's bag now slung over his shoulder.

He snapped out of his thoughts and pondered whether or not he should tell her. He sighed, knowing that she'd eventually get her way and find out about it anyway.

"Claustrophobia." Adrien simply stated, looking away and not meeting her gaze. "There were lots of bars crashing down everywhere but I'd rather now talk about it."

"Of course, Adrikins. I understand." Chloé replied, feeling sympathy for her childhood friend.

She had always known that he didn't really like being trapped and penned in but wasn't aware that it was actually claustrophobia. She'd always assumed that it was just his underlying feelings of wanting to go to school to meet new people.

"That's rough dude." Nino said, placing a hand on his back.

That's when Adrien realised that, because he wasn't paying full attention to his current surroundings, Chloé had been leading him past the a few of their classmates as he'd informed her of his nightmare and they'd all overheard him.

Marinette sent him a sympathetic look and, after being given a little shove by Alya, began to speak to him.

"I-Erm, Adrie-." She began to stutter out but he cut her off with a glare.

"Why would you even want to comfort your own nightmare?" He seethed, angry that she seemed to still be keeping up the act of being his friend despite the fact that she was so clearly afraid of him.

"What?" She questioned, taking a few steps back as the rest of the class looked between the two of them, gasping at the new information.

Tears brimmed in her eyes and the pace of her breathing began to quicken to an unhealthy level before she ran off and out of the school, wanting to get as far away from everyone's expectant gazes as possible.

"Dude, that wasn't cool!" Nino shouted at him as Alya glared at him for making her best friend cry. "You don't even know the full extent of what actually happened in her nightmare."

"Her nightmare may have included you in it but she's not scared of you!" Alya explained and then pointed to the entrance of the school. "Go and apologise to her. Now."

"Don't listen to them, Adrikins." Chloé stated as she tried to drag him away from the group once again.

"Sorry, Chloé, but Marinette's too important for me to just lose her like this." He apologised as he escaped her vice grip, running away and out of the front doors.

"Adrikins, her back here!" Chloé exclaimed and tried to race after him, but her path was blocked by an annoyed looking Alya and Nino.

"Oh no you don't," Alya declared, crossing her arms as she and Nino continued to block her path every time she tried to walk around them. "We're not letting you get in the way of their friendship, Chloé."

"Ugh, losers." Chloé spat, pivoting as she walked over to Sabrina.

Adrien could hear Chloé shouting his name behind him as he raced down the steps. He then heard what seemed to be Alya shouting at her to stay back and let him find Marinette.

He span in a circle when he reached the bottom of the steps, trying to spot wherever Marinette may have gotten to. She could be anywhere by now!

He stopped his searching when he heard sniffling coming from next to the stairs. Going around the corner, he saw Marinette sat with her head in her knees as she occasionally wiped a few tears away from her face.

He felt a sudden wave of guilt hit him as he realised just how much he'd upset her by not letting her explain herself. He was such a fool for jumping to conclusions!

"Marinette, I'm sorry." He whispered as he walked over and crouched down next to her, prying her hands away from her face and wiping a few of her stray tears away with his finger.

Marinette seemed too shocked to move at first. Shaking away her distress at seeing him, she sprung up from her place on the ground and attempted to run away from him.

Adrien grabbed her by the wrist before she could get too far away, turning her around to face him again so that she could see his sincerity. She turned her head away, refusing to meet his gaze.

"I'm truly sorry, Marinette. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions like that." He apologised again, the feeling of hopelessness beginning to form. He didn't want to lose one of his first ever friends. Not when they'd been getting closer recently too.

Marinette turned her head, finally looking at him, and nodded before cracking a small smile.

"I forgive you, Adrien." She accepted, and he pulled her into a friendly embrace which she soon returned.

They stayed like that for a few moments, enjoying each other's presence as they fed off each other's warmth.

The beeping of a car horn sounded, startling the two teenagers, and they looked over to see Adrien's bodyguard, the gorilla, looking over to them from the car.

"See you later!" Adrien said as he walked to the car and climbed inside. He waved to her before the car began to roll away, feeling happy with himself over the fact that he'd resolved the wrongly made conflict he'd accidentally begun.

Adrien smiled to himself, placing his hand in his pocket as he remembered the lucky charm she had given him, and leant back against the seat.

He was glad to say that Marinette Dupain-Cheng was one of his friends.
