One Year Later
There was still no sign of the Cold War ending, and the tension between the nations was only getting worse.

Even a few key nations were beginning to skip meetings pretending to be ill, others said nothing and tried to be invisible. Several started trying to come up with a random excuse as to why they couldn't come to the conference. Alastor and Seamus said they never got to talk, so what was the point? Peter said he wanted to get more practice with paperwork and whatnot for when he'd become a nation. Matthew, stopped coming up with excuses, because he came to every meeting. He even told Alastor, Seamus, Emrys, and Peter that he could handle going to all of the conferences for them. They were worried about him, but Matthew assured them that he was utterly invisible anyway.

It was more tense and scary, but Matthew and Ivan wanted to see each other as often as possible. They were very discreet, but with Matthew and Ivan being able to cover for themselves due to not being noticed, it wasn't as difficult as they thought.

Ivan had actually been able to visit Matthew in Britain before, and only Peter really knew about it. Though, he only knew that he was a friend, not even that he was another nation. And he allowed them enough privacy to be more intimate and close. Peter seemed to really like Ivan, and Ivan seemed to be developing a soft spot for the micro-nation.

The fact Peter didn't recognize Ivan wasn't an isolated issue.

In fact, many of those who knew Ivan began to forget his existence, mistaking Vladimir for him. And alternatively becoming fearful of Ivan. This wasn't the case with Matthew, who was still very unnoticeable. So it was easy for Matthew to visit Ivan's hotel room unnoticed. To chat, or in some lucky instances, to make love.

After the first time, both had become more comfortable and aware of each other's pleasure spots. They wouldn't forget the first time by any means, but they couldn't deny how good their current encounters were.
Lemon (Sex) Scene:
Canada🇨🇦: Ah!~

Matthew's moan broke through the irrational rustling and kissing sounds that had flooded the room for a while. It was early in the morning, they were able to do it the previous night as well.

Ivan leaned up to lay a few kisses on Matthew's neck. Holding Matthew close under the covers for warmth. Matthew arched his back in pleasure as Ivan pushed against his prostate. Ivan was much more gentle than the previous night, since he knew Matthew would be sore during the conference. So he also took the opportunity to massage Matthew's thighs so it would be easier for him to walk around normally during the remainder of the day.

Russia🇷🇺: Does it hurt anywhere, Matthew?

Matthew shook his head.

Canada🇨🇦: No, I'm fine.~ Please keep going~

Ivan leaned over to kiss Matthew. Holding him gently as the Russian made love to the Canadian. Feeling a flutter in his chest as he heard Matthew moan his name. Ivan leaned in again to plant a soft kiss on the side of Matthew's neck before laying his head against it and muttering something.

Russia🇷🇺: I love you... So much...

Matthew's heart fluttered intensely in his chest as he heard those words.

Canada🇨🇦: I—I love you too, Ivan—A—Ah!~ Ivan, I'm—!

One final moan from each finished what they were doing.
End of Lemon
Despite how warm it was getting outside, they couldn't seem to enjoy the warmth between one another enough. Ivan was constantly in awe of Matthew's soft skin, even if it had a few spots and scars. Ivan would savor holding Matthew close, locking eyes with him, and relaxing while muttering sweet nothings to one another.

However, moments like those had to end eventually. And the pair came to that realization when they saw the clock and knew that they had to get up and go to the conference.

They got up reluctantly, pulling each other close for one final hug before they separated for the day.

Whether it was a good or bad thing, several nations who had abandoned the meetings had gotten sick of waiting and begrudgingly began attending again. Nobody could be sure of whether or not this was a good sign. A sign that eventually the situation would tire out.

Nobody assumed that the conflict would end completely peacefully and voluntarily. Several guessed that it would take the nation's getting too exhausted from the fighting that they'd just make peace already. Or that they'd get so desperate for peace that they would make it. Either way, these were options that would have needed to take quite a long time to happen.

The nations still had a lot of momentum and energy to keep up the conflict. So it would have taken years at best. Decades at worst, before they finally got tired of being angry at everyone all the time.

As for the desperation, nobody had the willingness to fully let go of the anger yet. So that would take years at best too.

Ivan and Matthew hoped that they would eventually be able to be open about what they had together. And that nobody would get hurt in the crossfire, or directly from an angry nation.

They, and many other nations, gave their best efforts to keep a level head despite the occasional nation trying to egg them on to let out their anger and negative emotions. They gave their best effort to be stone faced, and quiet.

Matthew sat by France, America, and Britain like he usually did. And Ivan sat with the Baltic's and his sisters. There was an awkward silence in the first thirty seconds of the meeting that nobody liked. It felt like the build up to something really bad or scary happening. When things were too silent. Ludwig always broke it as soon as he could. And always got respect for it.

The meeting was awkward, and several nations didn't pay attention, having their eyes glued to the clock begging for it to end. Matthew was partially one of those nations, and so was Ivan. They payed a little attention, but constantly glanced at the clock, disappointed when they saw how little time had passed.

Then, it got closer to when the conference ended, several nations including the couple felt more anxious and excited the closer it got to being over. Then finally, Ludwig called the conference over. Nations filed out quickly.

Matthew and Ivan shared one final glance at one another, before they left the conference, and flew back to where they lived later that day.
