8. Ultron

TONY POV:
I uncover my ears when the screeching stops, the robot starts to speak, as it takes a few steps forward "Worthy... No... How could you be worthy? You're all killers." Spangles looks at me "Stark." "JARVIS?" He doesn't answer, but the robot continues speaking "I'm sorry, I was asleep. Or... I was a dream?" "Reboot legionnaire, we got a buggy suit."

Why is one of my suits acting up?

"There was a terrible noise... and I was tangled in... in... strings. I had to kill the other guy, he was a good guy." Spangles gets ready to pounce "You killed someone?" "Wouldn't have been my first call, but down in the real world we're faced with ugly choices." Thor joins in, trying to get answers "Who sent you?" I hear a recording of my voice "I see a suit of armour around the world."

Oh no...

Bruce clicks his fingers "Ultron!" "In the flesh, or no, not yet. Not this... chrysalis. But I'm ready, I'm on a mission." Natasha steps forward "What mission?" "Peace in our time." All of a sudden the Iron Legion break into the room and everything turns to chaos, especially since not everyone has suitable weapons nearby. I notice Metallica protecting his daughters, Neve shooting ice at bots. Spangles doesn't have his shield, Legolas doesn't have his bow and we definitely don't want the Hulk to break out.

I grab ahold of a bot and try to shut it down, Spangles calls me "Stark!" The bot speaks to me "We are here to help." "One sec, one sec!" "We are here to help. We are here to help. We are here to help. It's unsafe. It's unsafe." "No more, that's the one." "It's unsafe." The bot shuts down and I breathe a sigh of relief, but then I glance around to see one left standing. Spangles is tossed his shield by Legolas and he throws it at the last bot, Ultron speaks again "That was dramatic! I'm sorry, I know you mean well, you just didn't think it through. You want to protect the world, but you don't want it to change. How is humanity saved if it's not allowed to... evolve?" He picks up a bot head "With these, these puppets? There's only one path to peace, the Avengers extinction."

No! Don't say that!

Thor throws his hammer at it, smashing it to pieces, but that doesn't shut it up, Ultron starts singing creepily "I had strings, but now I'm free. There are no strings on me, no strings on me..." He powers down. Bruce is checking something "All our work is gone, Ultron cleared out, used the internet as an escape hatch." I sigh, Natasha joins in "He's been in everything, files, surveillance. Probably knows more about us than we know about each other." Rhodey crosses his arms over his chest "He's in your files, he's in the internet. What if he decides to access something a little more exciting?" I block them out for a minute as I look at JARVIS's consciousness.

Oh... JARVIS. I'm so sorry buddy...

I re-join the arguing when I hear someone mention that he said he killed somebody "But there wasn't anyone else in the building." I speak up "Yes, there was." Bruce mutters "This is insane." Even Spangles doesn't seem happy with it "JARVIS was the first line of defence, he would've shut Ultron down, it makes sense." "No, Ultron could've assimilated JARVIS. This isn't strategy, this is... rage."

BUCKY POV:
My daughters and I are sitting in my room, I didn't want them around for the arguing, so I took them away as soon as the robots escaped. It's been a while since and I'm called to the living room, I put my phone down "I'll be back in a bit girls, I'll be in the living room if you need me." They nod and I head to the others, when I get there, on a screen is a photograph of a man's body and the word 'Peace' written in blood on the wall behind him "What's this?" Steve answers me "A message, Ultron killed Strucker."

At least that's one more HYDRA leader out of the way.

Stark speaks "And he did a Banksy at the crime scene, just for us." Natasha looks deep in thought "This is a smokescreen. Why send a message when you've just given a speech?" Steve offers a suggestion "Strucker knew something that Ultron wanted us to miss." "Yeah, I bet he..." She looks at a computer "Yep. Everything we had on Strucker has been erased." Stark shakes his head "Not everything."

Stark brings boxes of paper files into a lab where we stand around looking for vital information. The team start talking about Wakanda, about a thief and Howard Stark, I interrupt "I don't follow. What comes out of Wakanda?" Stark looks to Steve's shield "The strongest metal on Earth."
