Chapter Four

The ship docked and before anyone, I was off the boat. But as my fate would have it, I ran into Simon. He looked at me with strong distaste.
"So you know." I nodded. "You're just like the rest of 'em. Fools. Run from what you don't believe. Hate what you can't understand. We let you aboard here with open arms. Gabriel trusted you, and you're just like them all. Gabe's not the type to open up to new people, especially you normies." Simon breathed deeply. "September 18th, 1876. I fell in love with a beautiful girl. I asked Gabe to let her aboard so we could travel the seas together. Gabriel said no. I asked my love, 'Be like me, and you'll never be alone.' She said no. She said she didn't want to live in a world where her family wasn't there. So, she died. Because I couldn't live in a world without her." I looked at him with pity, but a hidden understanding.
"You killed her because you didn't want to be alone." He nodded. This was the most Simon had ever spoken, and he was very open and more sensitive than I had realised.
"Yeah. But hey. I'm just another Dracula, so it's okay." I stayed a distance away from him. "Look. I don't hate... I don't hate people. I'm still grieving over my love, and that was centuries ago. I'm the second youngest here, I've got no command, Hell, the baby has more say in anything than I do. Jesse's our youngest, and we're friends. And behind the jokes and the flirting, I see he wants to feel human again. He wants to know you. To get to really understand you." Simon's sincerity was unnerving. "So... I won't let him go through that same heartbreak." Simon stood in front of me. His eyes were hypnotic, my body keeling as his hand touched my cheek. I heard a hiss as Simon's face turned to my neck. My heart slowed.
"SIMON!" My brain snapped back to reality. "What in God's name do you think you're doing?!" Simon hissed and ran off. "Oh my God, Sugar are you alright?!" Carmen placed her hands on my arms, looking at me in the eyes.
"I... I he... Did he try to bite me?" Carmen for once looked angry.
"Yes... Simon probably made up some sob story to get you to trust him." I nodded slowly as Carmen led me down the street, holding my bag filled with another woman's clothes.
"He loved someone..." My mouth was dry. My heart rate was through the roof.
"That is true. Anything else?" I shook my head, taking into consideration on how sincere Simon was. And whether it was poor judgement or pure compassion I was acting out of, I had no clue. "Well, if you'll let me, I can check you into a hotel room. You don't seem to have any money on you, and Gabriel and I are kind enough to let you stay with us if you so please. If you wish too, sugar, I can buy you a plane ticket back to your state." I heard a whimper behind me. Jesse was in dog form and he looked so pitiful. Like he didn't want me to go.
"I don't know. I truly don't know. I'd like to get a shower in, though... But I feel bad using your money." Carmen brushed it off.
"Money is a worldly thing. When you're like us, you see all you need money for is food. Come on dearie. I'll treat you nice."
Carmen checked me into my hotel room and left me to my own devices. I took a shower and finally got to getting all the little knots out of my hair. This was luxury, hence the five-star rating the hotel had gotten. It had a beautiful seaside view that let me see it from a balcony. Night time fell quickly as I spent most of the day eating, resting and scanning through high quality television channels I didn't know a hotel could produce. Dinner finally arrived at my door and I took it, feeling a bit satisfied by ordering food at 7 pm when most would be done with dinner rush. Carmen truly left me to contemplate a lifetime of adventure or living at home where I couldn't even afford ramen. It seemed an easy choice, but I knew the adventures wouldn't last forever. Unless I was one of them. One of the creatures that would leave me outcast from society until someone shoved a stake through my heart. Sleep didn't come easy, but that was alright. Between all the rest I'd gotten in the past week alone, I wouldn't be surprised. But I slept for a little while until I heard creaking around me. I tuned it out until I felt weight be pressed on my abdomen. I groaned and opened my eyes, seeing Simon on top of me.
"Simon!" I tried to move, but he was too heavy to shift off. He put a finger to my lips.
"You have no idea how long I've been craving your blood. The smell of purity and humanity is so potent, it'll make me sick if I don't try a taste." I pulled my hands out from under the covers to try to push him away, but he held them down with his hands, a vice like grip around my wrists.
"Get off!" Fear rattled my body. "Help! Hel-" He smacked my face, his hand immediately coming back down on my wrist.
"You scream, I bite harder." He growled, his eyes turning red, his fangs showing predominantly. "I meant every single word. Your kind are nothing but... fear filled vessels. I bet you want to slam a stake right into my heart. Say it. I want to hear your fear." My chest expanded and contracted with vigour as I tried to stop my hyperventilation, but to no avail.
"I... I... Please! Get off me!" I cried, tears flowing down my cheeks. "I never wanted to offend you! I never wanted to hurt anybody!" Simon's gaze was stone cold on me.
"Well, I've wanted your racist blood from the moment I laid eyes on you." Simon hissed and plunged his fangs into my neck. I screamed as loud as I could but no one came. Simon stayed latched onto my neck, his body moving up and down with breaths of pure ecstasy as he drained more blood; more life, from me. He finally let go, only his fangs dripping blood from centuries of experience. He pulled up his sleeve, digging into his wrist with his own fang. His blood poured from his wound and I struggled to move away as he put his wrist to the bite, his blood mingling with mine. "Welcome to the family." He chuckled darkly. "I feel alive. It's been too long." He laughed, opening the balcony window, leaving me a corpse of a person, and blood stains on the pillow. He stepped onto the railing and jumped, landing with a thud. "Thanks for the donation, wench." He called up to my second floor window and no sound was heard from there
