Chapter Six

"Okay, now I know what Carmen said about being sick." Jesse put my fourth cold face cloth of the day on my forehead. I was in a fever, I had vomited five times already and I had really aggressive chills.
"Yeah. Don't worry. It's like ten times worse for Werewolves the first time we transform. I almost clawed myself before I turned." I looked at him with surprise.
"Clawed yourself?" He nodded. He unbuttoned his flannel shirt, throwing it to the ground, his tank top underneath following suit. He was chiselled to the nines, and was covered in scars. One was more prominent, cutting diagonally across his chest to his hip. "You did that yourself?" I stared in awe.
"Yeah. Worst night of my life. Vampires bones don't rearrange themselves to be the anatomy of a wolf. Twilight makes it look easy. It hurts sometimes. " I gave him a sympathetic smile.
"Do you rip your clothes?" He shook his head.
"Nope. Most Wolves tend to like turning in the buff, but it's real simple. Just whatever you're wearin' kinda morphs with you. Why you think in those Vampire love stories, the Wolves always wear baggy clothes? Granted, it's a pain in the you-know-where to get clothes off as a wolf, and it looks real unintimidatin' when you're a giant wolf with knickers on." He let out a heart laugh."Come on now. Enough about me. Eat." He put the plate of toast that was sitting on my nightstand on my lap, letting me eat while he dressed. The toast tasted good, but I figured in an hour I'd regret it. Jesse sighed, his shoulders slumping. "The group went to find Simon. When they find that sonuvagun he's gonna pay for hurting you." I let out a chuckle.
"Two weeks ago, if you told me Werewolves and Vampires were real, and if they could hold compassion, I would have told you that you were full of it." Jesse grinned.
"Well, the entire group cares about you. Not really sure on Philippe's thoughts. Seeing as though he can't speak. You know what's funny? Philippe's the youngest looking, but he's older than Gabriel. Born in 1789. Gabe was born in 1806." I was surprised. Then again, Gabriel did say I'd be young forever, so I'll look this way until otherwise killed.
"When were you born, Jesse?" He stopped to think, counting numbers in his head.
"Well, I think it was around 1935. I'm the youngest of the group, yet when it comes to making decisions, we sometimes go by actual age."
"Well, come on, spill." Jesse and I both laughed. "I'm 26."
"Well, I'm 37, you know. Jackson is 43, Gabe is 40, Carmen is 38, Simon is 20 and Phillipe is eight months old." I was shocked.
"Eight months? Poor guy..." I sighed. Life taken so young, never to be grown up. I'd forever look in the prime of my life, so that was a pro on the list.
"Yeah. So, you think you can get up?" I nodded slowly. I peeled the covers off of myself, moving my legs in sync so they touched the floor. Jesse spotted me, keeping his arms at the ready to catch me. "I gotcha..." My legs stood, shaking. "There ya g- Whoa!" My knees buckled and before I knew it, Jesse's arms wrapped around me, holding me up. I gazed into his eyes. He smiled. "I told ya I gotcha." He pulled me up so I was standing in front of him. His arms were still around me, holding me close to him. "Tania... I..." He leaned in close to me, his face mere inches from mine.
"Jesse... we sh-" The balcony doors slammed open, turning both our heads towards Simon, leaning against the frame.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realise I was interrupting the lovebirds. Please, continue." Jesse's throat released a guttural growl. "Down, mutt." Simon's eyes turned red.
"Tania, get behind me." I did as told and stood, watching the two go back and forth at each other. "What're you doing here? Haven't you done enough?" Simon only laughed.
"Well, the girl's blood was so delicious... I had to get a second helping. You're welcome, by the way, for making her one of us. Now you won't go through the same hell I did. You're welcome." Jesse's teeth barred themselves in another growl.
"This isn't the life she asked for. If were up to me, I'd be the one to firstly ask her, then I'd bite her. If she so chose. You can't do this. You've robbed her of her life!" Simon smirked.
"You'd bite her? Why, so she can be your mate for life and have no choice but to surrender her will to the alpha and have your pups? Don't be ridiculous Jesse. I did her a favour. Wolves and Vampires don't mix very well together when it comes to love such as this." Simon pulled out a dagger. "If you're going to stand in my way, I will make sure you stand no longer." Jesse shed his human form and became his Werewolf self. He looked a lot more gruesome now, ditching the German Shepherd appeal for an actual wolf, chocolate brown fur matching that of his hair. He barked loudly and lunged at Simon. Jesse lied, as his clothes laid in shreds on the floor. The two struggled for a while, only Jesse's ears, back and tail visible from the side of the bed away from me.
"Get off, you dumb mutt!" Jesse let out a sharp howl, but managed to pick Simon up by his shirt. Simon struggled against Jesse's teeth, but to no avail. "What're you gonna do? Throw me off the balcony? You know that won't do anything!" Jesse switched back to human form, swiftly grabbing Simon by the neck.
"Darlin'..." Jesse struggled to hold Simon up, his breaths harsh with effort. "There's a gun in my room... hurry... It's 5-36..." I ran out of the room, finding Jesse's almost immediately.
"Okay... Gun in room is vague... Think... A holster... on his belt! Jesse's a cowboy!" I opened up a duffle bag on the floor. "Flannel, trousers, shoes, aha!" I pulled out a belt with a golden buckle with a holster on the side. I pulled out the six shooter that rested in the hold. It was filled with silver bullets. "Huh. Cliche much?" I ran back into my room, the struggle still going on.
"Sure took your time, darl! Aim for his heart!" I panicked.
"Shoot him?! I've never even held a gun!" Jesse shook his head, slamming Simon into the wall.
"Oh my god- Hold it to your target!" I held the pistol up. " Pull back the hammer!" I thumbed the piece sticking out from the gun. "Take a deep breath and put the trigger." I closed my eyes, breathing in slowly. A loud bang snapped through the air. I heard a thud. I opened my eyes. Simon lay on the floor, blood spilling out from his chest.
"You... You pathetic girl... You fool..." Jesse only laughed.
"The only fool here is you, Simon." Jesse picked up Simon by the throat and threw him off the balcony. "You messed with the wrong pack." Jesse turned around to me. "You did it. You got rid of him." Jesse smiled, but winced when stepping forward to hug me. "Crap, that hurts like Hell..." I looked at his right leg. There was a deep cut in it.
"Oh Hell... Are you okay?" He chuckled and nodded.
"Yeah. Just uh... Could you get me some knickers and trousers from my room? Changing into a full wolf kinda..."
"On it!" I dashed into his room and grabbed some briefs and pants. I gave them to him and he swiftly dressed, being embarrassed yet having no shame.
"Now, you remember where we were before Sir Smells A Lot crashed the party?" I laughed at the remark.
"That's an uncharacteristically school yard insult from you, Jesse, I do remember. But are we allowed to do that? You heard what Simon said. Are Vampires and Werewolves allowed together? More importantly, do you want to? We only just met..." I said, uncertainty in my voice.
"The whole Vampire v.s Werewolves thing is bull. And Tania... I would never do that to you. If you were my love, my mate for life, I would protect you until my last breath. No harm would ever come to you. As for... offspring, we wouldn't have any of our own. Different species don't mix. And of course I want to! I've liked you ever since you threatened me with a coat hanger!"
"That was one time, Jesse!" I laughed, my face a fiery red with blush.
"Tania, if you'll have me as I am, I'll treat you like a Queen. No. A Goddess. I like you, Tania. A lot." I stepped towards Jesse, dropping the gun in my hand. I wrapped my arms around his neck, his sliding around my waist.
"I like you too. Slowly but surely, I fell for you. Paws and all." Jesse blushed and leaned down towards me, his frame towering over me before doing so. I moved my face towards his, locking our lips together in a feverous passion. Jesse's hands travelled up my back, gripping my flesh hard, clinging himself to reality. He broke away from the kiss, panting.
"We... Shouldn't move too fast. But God... You're perfect... Will you be my partner?" Jesse had a love struck grin on his face. My heart raced.
"Yes. I can't believe I've only known you for a week. It feels like I've known you forever. Jesse I-" A wail tore through my body as I collapsed to the ground.
"Darl?!" My eyes rolled back in my skull, and everything went black.
