Chapter Seventeen

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and before we knew it, we were in Massachusetts. Carmen ended up getting sick when we were in France, so we hopped on down to Italy and told Jeremy to meet us at a Mediterranean port. Who knew Vampires could get sick? The moments were whipping past me. It was probably because I wasn't subject to time any more, but hey. I didn't mind at all. Jesse and I were fighting on the ship, as he was 'teaching' me how to fight. It wasn't true teaching as every five seconds he had to look in a beginners fighting book. I managed to drop kick him five times, and with my newfound strength, throw him over my shoulder.
"Alrighty you two! Enough with the fighting! We're in Massachusetts. Tania, you wanna show us around Boston? Considering you're from here." I nodded, helping Jesse up for the probable fifth time.
"Sure. I keep forgetting you basically kidnapped me." I chuckled, Carmen's face flushing slightly. "Sorry, I know it's touchy. But hey, I've had a Hell of a time with you guys. Some more than others." I scratched under Jesse's chin.
"Oh it's alright. I'm just glad you've been with us. I'm just sad to see you go. We'll see ya over your college break, yeah?" I nodded. Carmen's timing in taking me was near perfect. I was off from college and I was coming back in a week or so. I'd call sick if I missed a week or two, but with the schedule I had, I had a lot more break time for assignments, which I usually finished within the week they were assigned. Jesse was sad to see me go, but what he didn't know was that I had an apartment, as well as a dorm room. My family was no slouch with money, yet I wasn't one to brag.
"Ya sure you have to go?" Jesse sighed, sadly. I nodded, playing along into my plan. Although Jesse was like a shadow to me, I made sure my mother made accommodations in my home. He didn't know at all, and he was going to be dumbstruck when I showed him a room built for two. I was just hoping a trademark bachelor would be alright living with me for a while. For once, I was taking the big leap. The ship ported in Boston harbour and we all walked on land for the last time together. Jesse held my hand tightly. It was the end of our tour. Carmen and Gabriel would go back to their home in Louisiana with Phillipe. A shame I never really got to know the little guy. Maria would go to Las Vegas, Jesse riding along to Santa Fe. I was the only one who was born and raised in Massachusetts; New England, nonetheless. And I was glad it wasn't snowy anymore. I was boarded in January, and now it was early April. I was glad I missed Easter. I had never been one for religion, and my parents would always make me come over for Easter. I told them I was travelling with friends, and they were content with that. The group said they would get food, as this time we weren't staying in any hotel. Jesse almost parted ways with me, nearly going into a Shakespearean frenzy with goodbyes, I pulled him by his arm towards my apartment.
"I need to get some things from my friends apartment. I could use your help." Jesse giddlily ran along with me, happy that he could spend some more time with me. My apartment complex was small yet modern and chic. Once again, money wasn't an issue. Jesse and I went through the entrance and took an elevator to the fourth floor. We got to my door, and I opened it. "She gave me a key." I lied. I opened the door, and everything was in order. No streamers, no 'Welcome Home Jesse' nothing of the sort. Just a little black box on my dining room table. "That's it. Can you get what's inside for me? I have to write a note to say I got it." Jesse picked up the box, and I stood exactly where I was. He opened it.
"Tania, I thought you already had a key?" He turned around to see me smiling.
"Really? Turn the key around." He did so, his eyes scanning the key as he spoke what was written on the back.
"Jesse- Wait... Is this for me?" I nodded, my grin growing cheerfully. "Ya want me with ya? Livin' with ya?" Jesse's face was one of happiness, no longer shock as he read the key.
"I'm just as sad to live without you. So, I figure this is a lot better than long distance- whoa!" Jesse picked me up and spun me around. "What're you doing!" I laughed.
"Well, I ain't a linguist like you, so this is how I'm gonna express how much I love you and how much I'm sayin' yes!" Jesse set me down. "So. Just me and you. No one else to interrupt our life. Sounds... Amazing. Can't believe I'd really ever settle down in one place. Much less with a beautiful girl on my arm." He kissed my lips, pulling me tight against his body.
"You charmer. What's Maria gonna think when you don't come back with her?" Jesse let out a hearty laugh. One that I had grown to love over the past half year. Time flew by faster than it ever had in the past. Being with Jesse really was the definition of 'time flies when you're having fun'.
"She'll be singing Hallelujah the whole way back. I ain't exactly the best passenger. But, who knows. Maybe I'll be a great roommate." I showed Jesse around the house, making a claim to kill him, should he ever sleep on the left side of the bed. I showed him where he could put his things, and I told him that over the weekend we could shop for anything he would need. Once I got Jesse settled in the apartment, we met up with the gang in a little eating area. We filled them in on our plan, and Maria was more than happy.
"Oh thank God! Have fun living with him! Hopefully he's a better roommate than a passenger. God. Whining the whole way through, sticking his head out of the window. Tania, child, I wish you luck. And Congratulations. You two must be ecstatic." Jesse couldn't contain his smile, Carmen was hugging him tightly. Jesse was kind of like a son to Carmen. And she was a little teary eyed when Jesse told her he was moving in with me.
"We are. Jesse more so. He's excited to be moving in, finally settling down." Jesse sat down next to me, kissing my cheek. Carmen sat across from him. I heard strums of a guitar. "Carmen, you didn't say this place had music." Carmen only smiled softly, as a man walked to my side. I looked up at him. It was Gabriel. "Gabe! What are you doing?" He only chuckled. He played a chord on the guitar.
"Congratulating you." Gabriel began to sing.

"Hold on, to me as we go. As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along,
Just know you're not alone. 'Cause I'm going to make this place your home.
Settle down, it'll all be clear. Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear. The trouble it might drag you down,
If you get lost, you can always be found. Just know you're not alone.
'Cause I'm going to make this place your home.
Settle down, it'll all be clear. Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear..The trouble it might drag you down,
If you get lost, you can always be found. Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm going to make this place your home."

The group clapped as Jesse and I kissed. It was a definite whirlwind romance, with a perfect happy ending. True, the group would see us again soon, but this was an ending we deserve.
