Ethan's POV
I put my luggage in the backseat with hers. I covered the suitcases with a blanket, I texted her.
Ethan: I'm on my way, love
Ava: i love u
Ethan: <3
A smile formed on my face, the first smile since I heard the news. I shook my head to get that out of my head. We're normal. We're normal. We're normal. No we aren't.
I locked my phone and started to drive to her house. I beeped and she came running toward the car. Her hair was straight and she wasn't sad. She looked happy, something I wasn't. She was wearing a ripped band tee with jeans. She opened the car door and gave me a peck on the lips.
"Hey, beautiful" I said faking a small smile. "Eth..." she trailed off and her happy smile disappeared. She took my hand, "I said you can leave this all behind, you don't need to take care of your sick girlfriend anymore. You can either leave now with a subtle heartbreak and in 2 months your heart will never love again. I can't pick for you, after all I'm dead anyways." A tear fell from my eye and I quickly wiped it away.
"No, yeah I'll be sad but I'm going to spend every single day with you until I can't! Yeah, I'll probably never love again but I love you enough to fill it for a lifetime. You aren't a dead soul, I will be one and you'll be one but not now, not today. There is a small chance we can get through this and I will not stop at anything to make you live!" I screamed and her smile formed again.
She put her hand on my cheek, "I hate you, Dolan." A smirked, "you love me." I pulled her into a kiss and I remember we have a plane to catch. I pulled away and started to drive.
"Where are we going, Ethan?" She asked for the 10th time. "Tell me" I rolled my eyes, "We are going to New Jersey to see my family." Which was a lie. She squealed with happiness as I pulled into the airport parking lot. I pulled out bags out of the backseat. I gave her hers and kept mine. I looked at the tickets that I purchased before, Gate 34.
I walked into the crowded airport with Ava's hand in mine with my other hand caring my luggage. They searched our bags, and we walked up to gate. "Gate 34, the flight to New York" the lady said over the speaker. I looked at Ava and her face lit up. "No..." she looked shocked and even more happy. "Anything for you" she wrapped her arms around the neck and put her face in my shoulder,
"You're amazing" she said in my ear, I kissed her forehead as we entered the plane. She got the window seat as I sat next to her. Luckily, this plane only had rows of two so that I didn't have to sit next to a stranger. She put her head on my shoulder as the plane took off. Her hands were in mine as we looked out to the clouds. The flight from LA to New York was 3 hours. We sat there talking for hours and our plane landed.
We got our bags and I got my rental from the parking lot. It was just a normal white Chevi. I put our bags in the back as Ava got in the car. "Everything you wish for?" I joked as I entered the car. "Yeah... actually" she said as I drove us to our hotel.
We arrived at the high end hotel and we got our key. I unlocked the door and Ava walked in. We toured the room the red was massive and we had a fridge and a sink. We also had a double person tub ;).
I tackled Ava on the bed and pinned her down. "Hey" She said laughing, "I like you a lot" I joked she kissed me. We pulled away, "I'm gonna miss you." I said and she looked a little offended. She pushed me off her and she looked stress. "What?" I asked concerned, "why'd you bring that up, I was trying my hardest to forget that I was dying!"
"We are all dying!" I screamed back, "Yeah Ethan, but I'm dying faster!" I was taken back, "don't say that..." I started. "That's the reason you brought me here, for pity?!" She screamed and ran out of the room. "Come on!" I punched the wall and ran after her. I saw her head up to the exit stairwell but she went up instead of down.
No! No! No!
I ran as fast as I ever did and ran up the stairs. I rushed trough the roof doors. I saw her sitting on the edge crying looking out to the city lights. I sat next to her with our legs dangling. "You're not fine" I said and she looked at me. "I'm not, Ethan. Look at all of those people down there. How much people of them are dying from cancer. It would be so easy to just jump and end it all."
"Why do that?" My voice cracked and she looked at me in the eyes. I saw her black mascara run down her cheeks. "Because you're the only one who is saving me from ending it all."
