It had been a month or so since the last heist, Craig and I announced our engagement at the charity event earning us both many congratulations from people who had really no idea who or what Craig was. They just saw a tall man, with a perfect suit and tie on. Hair slicked back and beard trimmed, next to me in an elegant dress and assumed he was a business owner of sorts. Craig and I stole from the event that night, walked away with nearly forty thousand dollars that we had agreed to put into a savings account should things with Smurf ever fall under.
The boys all seemed almost lost with Smurf hitting the bottle most days. She rarely spoke to anyone and when she did it was about a job, or Lena. Deran was surfing a lot more and constantly talking about stepping away from the game. Something I oddly hoped Craig would considered someday soon himself, then there was Baz and Pope. They either were off the rails or acting as if nothing in the world was going on with them.
Craig had started staying at my place more, leaving his room at Smurf's literally just a bed, couch and table. The boys as a group had agreed to let me join in any of their jobs, Baz pointing out having a girl around could also help with any covers we might need. Which was why he and I were pretending to be a couple walking through this brewery together acting as if we were a couple.
We were holding hands awkwardly looking around at all the tanks,as the man began to explain about the new lager he was going to give us. For the past week we had been pretending to be beer enthusiasts. Which would have been easier with Craig or Deran since we all hung out enough to know what to say about each other. The last three months were the most time I had spent with Baz since before he and Catherine had gotten married.
With the whole group ahead of us Baz held my arm stopping me from walking as the doors shut in front of us unbeknownst to the guide or the others on the tour. Baz and I quickly made our way back towards a set of stairs meeting with Pope as he looked at me, "You look nice." He told me as I smiled, "You did pick this out." I remarked pointing at the jeans and t-shirt we found at some random thrift store.
"Alright, alright. Heads in the game." Baz explained to us as we headed down some halls. I didn't even need this money, and I didn't care for the 'thrill' either , being involved with the guys honestly just made me feel like I was supporting Craig.
Pope broke us into a small room that I guessed was supposed to be an office as the three of ade our way towards the safe sitting there at the end of the desks. Baz pulled it away as Pope began to wrap some cords around it. I was standing watch making sure no one could hear us or were on their way to this office. We took all week to scope out the times people dipped back here but they were so sporadic that we really had to wing the timing here.
The finally had the safe on a dolly and looked over at me, "Alright, you know what to do next?" Baz asked me. "I'm going with Craig, you and Pope in the truck, J with Deran. Do you want me to go out the front door still?" I asked him as he shook his head, "No just lead the way, few steps ahead so if someone sees you... you can lie say your lost." Baz told me which was completely different from the original plan of me making a scene to drag people away from the exit.
We kept walking until we got to the grate in the floor, removing the top as Craig was there to hand Pope a bag. I leaned down and gave him a quick kiss before Baz nudged me to move away. "Kid says there's people at the exit."
