He finally has nothing to say, he only scratches the back of his head and steps to his spot in line. I almost feel bad.
I turn back around so I can see where I'm walking and I can feel all of the eyes in the cafeteria trained on me.
I hate Cam for giving me all of this attention.
What did I do to get it?
"So you guys are dating now?" Kita asks when I sit at my seat.
" Um, no." I say, trying not to let my cheeks flush red.
"Bro, she totally likes him! I'm already in the Calliah ship." Jace butts in between scoops of strawberry Greek yogurt.
I grab the nearest pencil and flip it at him. It hits him right in the forehead.
"Ow." he says, but I have a feeling that it didn't hurt.
"Why'd you fling my favorite pencil Alliah?" Cam asks over my shoulder, startling me.
"Oh, um-"
"Jace was being annoying as usual to," Kita looks at me straight in the eye, "your girlfriend so she flicked a pencil him."
I shoot Kita a glare. He smiles back.
"Alright, let's not kill each other." Cam says, sitting down.
He sets a tray down in front of me. A typical school lunch; pepperoni pizza, a carton of chocolate milk, a mountain of unnameable fruits, and a bag of potato chips.
For maybe five minutes the four of us are quiet. It's kind of weird, I notice, Kita is the only person on the other side of the table. Jace, Cam, and I are sitting in a row.
"What does a smart blonde and a UFO have in common?" Kita asks, breaking the silence. He's the first one done with his food.
"God, Kita please don't." Jace mutters.
"What?" I ask.
"They are often heard of, but never seen." Kita bursts out laughing at his own joke. He's the only one, so I give him a pity smile and a chuckle.
Cam nudges me with his shoulder. "Don't feel like you need to support him. He'll just keep making worse jokes."
Kita bangs his fist on the table, wheezing laughter.
Does he really think it was that funny?
"Is he usually like this?" I whisper to Cam.
He sighs.
"Yeah."
