Maya's POV

"Ugh..." I hear myself grumble as I step out into the cool New York breeze. I did not want this night to go like this.

I start to make my way down the steps of... well, whoever's house this is, and I hear the door slam behind me. I dont even have to turn around to know who it is. Little miss perfect herself.

"I'm not in the mood Riles." I tell her flatly, settling down on the bottom step.

"You're not in the mood Maya!? You're so high you don't even know where you are or what day it is!" Riley shouts at me and I can't help but laugh.

"I'm at... Keith's house and it's Saturday night." I stutter out, trying to remember where I actually am.

"This is Jason's house and it's Tuesday!" She shouts back at me. Well, shit.

Riley sits beside me and takes out her phone. I try to look at who she's calling but it's too bright. She mumbles something about coming to get us and the address before hanging up. Then she turns her gaze back to me and her eyes are full of pity.

"Peaches, what's going on with you?" She asks, genuinely concerned.

I look away and shake my head. I already told her I wasn't in the mood. I dont want to snap at her but she's Riley, and she won't stop until I tell her.

"There's nothing going on! I just want to have a little fun! Is that so much to ask!?" I spit back at her, and she almost backs away.

"Fine Maya. Have all the fun in the word. What do I care?" She says solemnly.

Before I get another word out, a familiar SUV pulls up and I start laughing. I thought she called her parents or Lucas even. I was so wrong.

"Let's go." Riley says, standing and offering me her hand. I sneer at the gesture and pull myself up, moving down the last two steps to the sidewalk.

"Is she okay?" I hear his voice and look up. I'm ready to throw a snarky comment his way about talking about me like I'm not there. I open my mouth to speak, but instead everything starts spinning and I feel myself falling.

"Okay, that's a no." I hear his voice one more time before I feel strong arms around my waist.

I want to fight and tell him not to touch me. To go back to his girlfriend and forget I exist. Every part of my mind wants to get out of here, but my body wont cooperate. Everything is going blank.

Josh's POV

"What the hell is going on Riley?" I ask my neice as she opens the door for me. I place a very unconscious Maya in the back seat and close the door.

When I turn around, Riley looks broken. She tries to stutter out what happened but it comes out in bits and pieces. I catch a few key words and I put the puzzle together for myself.

Maya. Pharm Party. Pills. Somethings Wrong. Can't. Home. This.

"Riley, I need you to focus. What did she take?" I ask, placing my hands on her shoulders.

Riley shakes her head as the tears flow down her cheeks. I quickly realize she has no idea. Shit! Maya is high on random pills and passed out in the back of my car. Riley's right though. She cant go home like this.

"Can you drive?" I ask Riley and she continues to sob.

After a minute or two she is able to gather herself and nods her head.

"The keys are in the ignition. I need you to drive straight to my apartment." I tell her gently. I can't risk her coming undone again.

Riley runs to the drivers seat and starts the car while I hop in the back and place Maya's head in my lap. She's breathing normally and doesn't appear to be too hot or too cold. That's a good sign.
