Asher's POV
"Are you sure Asher?"
I smile, "sir, you know me. I am a stubborn person."
He sighs, "you won't ever find a girl." He pinches the bridge of his nose dramatically.
"Whatever." I brush him off and he laughs ruffling my hair.
I see him collect his documents, "it's quite late, you will be fine right?" I ask, trying to sound nonchalant but my voice was laced with concern.
He laughs, "Asher Trevor Evans, are you showing your soft side to me?"
I feel heat crawl up my neck, "yea, I am. Don't you dare tell this to anyone else." I warn.
He smirks and pats me on my back once, "it's okay boy. Men are allowed to show vulnerable emotions, it makes you more real and relatable." He bends forward, "got it?" He asks and I nod with a small smile.
"Thank you for always being there. Also, for taking care of our data. " I laugh and he shakes his head.
"I'll drop by my home real quick and pick up Karen and the kids. Hopefully she has complied all the matter." He sighs.
I frown, "why are you taking them? I mean your kids?""I'll leave them at their grandparent's place since we'll pass that on our way." He pauses, "I don't think it's quite safe to leave them alone for a week." I nod understanding his point.
"I'm still offering, I can go and do the work too." I say.
"No, you will stay right here and prepare for your exams. Got it? Like the others are, right now."
I scoff at this, surely they are.Micheal gets in the car and rolls down the windows. I hesitate, for some reason I had this unsettling feeling within me but I couldn't pinpoint the cause.
"It isn't safe." I say truthfully. Keeping one hand on the hood I bend down to look at him properly.
" Gaah, I know. Is it a new thing? When are we safe?" He brushes me off and I press my lips standing back up.
"I better see good grades, okay? This is the final test." I nod once and sigh.
I see as the car pulls off and speeds down the road, staring at it until it disappears round the corner. Releasing a deep breath my gaze fixes at the gravel beneath my feet. No one was around but I still strained myself to sense if any danger could be detected. Once satisfied I shove my hands in my jacket and walk to the nearest diner.
Being the weekend the place was crowded more than usual, but the crowd wasn't your everyday family. The music was loud and I felt it in my veins. It was hard to get rid off the heaviness I felt and it now paved it's way to a headache. I ordered my usual drink but asked to make it extra strong today. A few won't hurt, right?
I look at my phone and check tomorrow's schedule, physics exam. While I was going through the syllabus I get a call from Mae. She must be calling to ask for notes.
"Hey" I pick up after letting it ring for a while.
"Hey, do you have the notes we got?" She asks.
I didn't want to tell her I wasn't at home. I had promised them I won't do any of the underground stuff while the exam period was going on. I'll just pretend with the nonchalant facade I always put. Not like I can provide her with what she wants, I wasn't at home, nor do I think I will be for the rest of the night.
