WHEN THE BODY fell to the ground, all I could hear is a slight buzzing in my ear, more terrifying than anything I've heard before. That sinking feeling you get at the sound of a gun ringing out and you know someone took the bullet, knowing someone's on the ground behind you, knowing they're bleeding out, knowing, knowing it's someone you love... I would never wish that feeling on anybody.
I turned slowly, half of me fighting myself, wanting to see but not wanting to know.
The first thing I saw was red pavement. No, bloodstained pavement that was getting darker and larger by the minute.
Then the body. Sandy. Her eyes were wide and glassy, her thin hair splayed on the ground like tentacles, her forehead still wrinkled with worry and age. Dead center, in the middle of her forehead rested a small nickle sized hole leaking blood faster than I could stop it. Blood was leaking out the back of her head, too- it had gone straight through.
I looked at Dane who had been standing right behind her, he was in utter shock looking at her motionless corpse, but I noticed something off about his posture. He soon came back to reality, wincing in pain, confused as to why he's in pain, as his hand reached his collarbone, he began to rub it, looking as if he had been stung by something. The second his hand made contact with his shoulder, blood could be seen seeping through the cracks in between his fingers. He pulled his hand away allowing the rest of us to see. I knew he would be fine, it's not a to serious injury unless it gets infected, as long as he apply's pressure he'll be fine.
As Darrin ran to his brothers side applying pressure to his shoulder, almost instantly. I heard a sickening snicker come from behind me. Aamon was pleased with the results of what she'd just done, and started boasting to her comrades, but the laughter soon got cut short as another gun fired. This time we had done the shooting.
The man on Aamon's left, the one who she talked to the most, soon collapsed, blood spewing out of his head. I glanced away to see where it had come from.
Lilith was standing farther down the road behind us a hunting rifle, I'd never seen before in her hand as she began reloading.
I snapped my head back to Aamon who was furious. "Kill them!"
A gust of bullets flew past my body as I moved out of the way. "Run!" I heard Lilith's voice echo out.
I didn't even get the chance to react until an arm linked with mine and dragged me off, my supply filled bag clanking on the inside. I soon realized that it was Liam! He pulled me until we were both running at the same pace, then let go of his tight grasp. Tatum soon came up on my right, hovering right beside me, never breaking once, while Darrin and Dane fell in behind us, Darrin helping his brother keep up the pace without letting go of his shoulder. Jennifer bolted in front of us, running as fast as the wind could carry her, it was almost like the pavement could catch on fire from the friction of her shoes hitting it. She didn't stop nor took a break, even when she'd passed Lilith and ducked in between two buildings where an alley way began.
"Hurry!" Lilith screamed, firing back at Aamon and her men, who were right on our feet but a couple of paces behind.
We tried to run faster but bullets always got in the way, forcing us to duck or run out of the way. Lilith was trying so hard not to hit us, but even she was struggling to even get a clear shot at Aamon with us constantly moving around. Eventually Aamon's people started firing there more heavier guns, a endless amount of gun clips being emptied, bullets wasted trying to hit us, until finally one did. Tatum soon fell right beside me, his clumsy feet tripping over the other as his body jolted forward rolling until stopping.
"Tate! No!" Lilith screamed, firing her gun without even worrying who she hit now, reloading as fast as she could "Alaska help him, I'll cover you!"
