THE SILENT KILLER

CHAPTER 30

An idea strikes.
I rush to his study and pick a tablet from the table.
I goggle to see if my parents' businesses are still running and lucky enough, they are, only that the business names have been changed to some funny names. I conclude that my relatives have sold a my inheritance.
The fact is, I don't want any of the properties or businesses, but someone must suffer.
They are couldn't accommodate me when I needed them most. All they did was to share my inheritance and squander it without giving a damn about me.

Don shows up late in evening but in a good mood. I serve him his food and his eyes can't get off my cleavage. With time, I've learnt that he has a thing for scantly dressed ladies therefore I try to dress as sexy as I can. After all he has been buying every kind of clothes for me  but I e been too choosy. I've been wearing only the less revealing ones.

"Finally Donna, finally! The clothes I've been gifting you have been made good use of... "
He says while grinning, his eyes still stuck at my cleavage.
After eating, I collect the dishes and take them to the sink. His eyes can't get off my ass. I know it has overgrown and it's well outlined in the dress I'm wearing. He can stop drooling over me....

The night and many other nights passes without airing my grievances. I'm just taking my time and I don't want him to think I'm trying to take advantage.
He's no longer angry with me. He treats me better each passing day.

Finally the day is here.
I'm ready to ask for his help, if he turns me down, I'd have tried.
If he accepts, I'll allow him to do it his own way. People must pay for making me suffer.

"Honey...."
His eyes are on his computer. He decided to work from home.
"Yes"
He replies, without looking up from the computer.
"You know eh... Since my parents died, I haven't been able to place flowers on their graves. I was asking if you can accompany me to go and visit their graves..."

" Let the dead lie peacefully woman! Why do you want to visit them after all these years?"
" Not just that dear, I want you to help me get back at my relatives for taking everything from me!"
I'm not sure if he shall help me but at least I've tried.
He seems to be thinking hard and I'm sure he'll come up with something.
"Well, we can't salvage your businesses because they were all sold five years ago. As for your parents' properties, they were all sold out, except the mansion you used to live in....."
" Wait a minute Don! How do you know all these?"
" Simple... I own everything your parents'ever owned. I bought everything from your relatives. They were willing to sell out everything at a throw away price and I was there to buy them.... Simple!"
I look at him, feeling disgusted!
Not that I needed the inheritance, no...
But I doubt whether I know the man I married.
Don is dangerous.
I have to tread carefully from now onwards..
"Don...."
He looks up to meet my terrified face.
"Why do you look like you've just seen a ghost? I'm your husband Donna!"
No!
I throw him one hateful glance and as I make for the door, he calls me out;
"Donna...."
I look over my shoulder and meet a grinning man, a wicked smile plastered all over his face....
"I'm taking you to their graves. After that, we shall visit your relatives one by one but I can assure you that they are currently wallowing in poverty. If you are planning on revenge, God has already revenged on your behalf."
I'm transfixed to the ground, his words piercing through my ears, as some sweet bitter music.
"What do you mean Don?"
"Well, since I realised you are Mr. Brown's daughter, I've been doing a background check on your extended family and I've realised they are people I know!"
" Who are you again? Don! You baffle me. Who are you? Oh God, who did I get married to?"
" Get ready, we are leaving to the cemetery!"
As I prepare myself, I'm just wondering how Don does his stuff. How he got to know everything about me! I have to be careful with this guy oh.
        **************
The drive to the cemetery is short.
Drake is on the wheel as Don and  I take the back seats.
Through our the money, our fingers are intertwined. I know he's doing this to curb the nervousness which has engulfed me all over a sudden.

My parents' graves look bushy. They haven't been tended to for years.
A surge of hatred rushes through my heart.
Mum and dad has brothers and sisters and all they did was fight for their properties, later selling them at throw away prices and they can't at least clear the bushes around their graves?
I'm so mad right now.
Don sees the anger in My eyes and as he places his hands over my shoulder, I'm too overwhelmed my grief such that I let it out there and then.
All he does is to tell me a is gonna be alright.
After I'm done crying, he talks to the cemetery attendant who is more than willing to clear the bushes provided that he gets paid.
Don dashes him a wad of dollars and he can't stop grinning, exposing his rusty teeth.
He promises to be attending to the graves oftenly.

"What next Donna?"
Don enquires, on our way home.... "
" I'm paying those hooligans I call my relatives a visit....."
" Consider it done Hun. But no killings! Only threats."
I hug him and then kiss him passionately. Don is the best!
He let's out a hearty laughter, as he gives directions to Drake.
