THE SILENT KILLER

CHAPTER 35

"Let go off my leg Don! You are creating a scene. You are embarrassing yourself!"
I command in my drunken stupor. But in real sense, it comes out as a croak.
Who am I lying to?
I so need to be begged. It feels good to be begged especially by the high and mighty Don.
"I'm not letting go unless you listen to me. You've punished me enough Donna. I've realised that I can't continue living without you my wife!"
Everything is happening so fast.
My head is spinning.
I feel dizzy..I think it's the wine I've just taken.
All of a sudden, my legs give way and I fall, but before my body comes into contact with the tiled floor, Someones hands are waiting.
*Donna and her fainting*
When I regaining consiousness, I'm in an hospital, just lying on bed. No drip, no tubes, no beeping sounds.
I look around, somehow confused, looking for either a doctor or nurse.
I'm dying with thirst and I can't trace any water in the ward.
The door to the private Ward creaks open and in comes the mighty Don.
He's grinning from ear to ear and I wonder what's funny. Or is it because I'm finally awake?
"I'm glad you're awake!"
He says.
"Water!"
That's all I manage to say.
"Just a minute."
True to his words, he doesn't even spend more than thirty seconds. He comes back with a bottle of mineral water, pours some in a cup and helps me sit up.
The water tastes different. Immediately I'm done drinking it, I throw up, spoiling Don's shirt and jacket.
I look at him, searching his reaction but he's still grinning.
I thought he'd be mad at me for ruining his clothes.
" I'm sorry Don, I didn't mean to spoil your clothes."
I apologise.
" Don't worry honey, you will be fine..."
"I'm I sick? Don't tell me I need another operation! Oh God!"
" Don't get yourself worked up darling. everything is fine...!"
The doctor comes in, smiling as well.
He laughs loudly when he sees Don drenched in water. He didn't even bother changing.
"What happened sir, you look horrible!"
He says, still stifling some laughter.
" She happened... You know why..."
Don replies, laughing even more.
Why are they acting all funny?
They must be hiding something.
He's a different doctor, not the one who did operation on me, not Greg.
What's wrong with these guys today? What's there to smile for?
"Madam Donna.. I'm glad you are finally awake"
He starts.
"Congratulations...."

He's making me more confused.
They Are acting all funny!
Don bursts out laughing when he sees confusion written all over my face.

"What's funny Don? Can you guys tell me what I'm suffering from!"
I'm getting worked up already.
" I'm the one who's gonna suffer for the next eight months. With this your attitude, it's evident that you'll be a hard nut to crack... "
Don says, still grinning.
" Once again, madam Donna.... Congratulations. You are five weeks pregnant!"
His words catches me unaware.
"Pregnant? How? You gotta be kidding me!"

My mouth is wide open when the realisation hits me! I thought I had missed my periods due to climate change.
The pills?
Oh no!
I had stopped taking them two months ago.
Oh no!
How stupid was I to drink a whole bottle of wine in my condition?
I'm glad I didn't harm my baby.
I'm already in love with him!
Donna! Pregnant?
I'm happy, yeeeey!
But Don seems to be happier. That means he's willing to be a father already!
If he ain't willing, I have a the resources to take care of my baby all alone.
"Let me facilitate your discharge, we are going home already."
Don says as he stands up to leave.
" Don't leave yet Don, doc please, give us a minute."
The doc waves at me as he goes out.
"Does it mean we are going home together? What about my stuff in the hotel room?"
I voice my concern.
"Don't worry honey, your stuff is safe. We'll pass by the hotel to pick it then catch the next flight to our state."
I give out a heavy sigh of relief. Don's assurance was enough.
He wants me by his side.
I hope he loves me for real this time round, without hurting us.... The baby and I.

Back in the bungalow, Pam is waiting for us, food already on the dining table. I'm sure Don called her to give her instructions. Don helps me sit as he pulls my chair.
He sits next to me, offering to feed me.
"Remember you are eating for two honey!"
The food is appealing, my favourite chicken and sphagetti but the aroma makes me feel nauseated all over again.
I don't want to piss Pam off because she put all her effort in the food to please me.
I bite on to a drumstick still closing my eyes but the smell is unbearable.
I'm about to throw up.
I push my chair backwards and run to the sink.
Thank God it's nearby, I would have puked on the carpet.
Don is beside me, with a glass of water.
Pam too looks surprised.
"Anything wrong with the food Donna?"
She asks me.
"The food is okay. It's her favourite. it's just that eh... Uh...eh...she's pregnant!"
"Don!"
I exclaim.
" Waoooh! Congratulations madam Donna. This is good news, waoh!"
Pam is jumping up and down like a possesed teenager. You'd have thought she's the father of the baby.
When I'm done doing my business in the sink, I drink some water then head back to the dining table, with a new found energy.
I attack my food without thinking about the puking stuff.
When I'm finally full, I gulp down a glass of cocktail juice then Don helps me upstairs.
It's gonna be the longest... O rather shortest eight months of my life. It depends on how supportive Don will be.....
