Chapter 12 - Final

Lacey's POV

I stand there, watching as (Y/N) walks up to the stage. I tried not to cry as the Queen spilled words of utter disgust and spite. Declan held my hand, making sure no one was watching us. Then we see Shadow standing up, putting his plan in action.

Shadow's POV

My parents' shocked faces left me unfazed as I pressed the cold metal of the knife closer to my neck.

"Shadow, what do you think you're doing?!" my mother screamed in distress.

"I told you, if you kill this girl, you might as well kill me too."

Before my parents could say anything else, I saw a commotion coming from the crowd; Declan and Lacey had made their way up to us through the crowd.

"Princess... What's going on..?"

"Your highnesses, you cannot kill this girl without killing your own son. That bit has been made very clear. But we need you to understand that she has done absolutely nothing wrong—"

"If you haven't heard already, she has slept with our son!"

"That does not mean it was a sexual act. She was highly depressed that day after losing her mother and had fallen asleep after crying."

I decided to add to the explanation, "I didn't know where her room was, so I let her sleep in my bed. It was my choice to sleep next to her, not hers."

The crowd gasped again and began speaking silently among themselves.

"Shadow, why are you defending this commoner? What reason do you have to defend her?"

I turned to the crowd and shouted out confidently, "Because I am I  love with her!"

Another gasp sounded from the crowd and some lady dramatically fainted.

"But that's impossible! You can't fall in love with someone like her!"

"And you can't force love! You can't make me love and marry someone that I only consider a friend!"

"He's right! I don't love him! And as for loving a 'commoner', well, that speaks for itself in his case. Just as he loves this girl, I love this man!" Lacey announced, pointing to Declan.

"If falling in love with a person that is not of royal blood is wrong, then I definitely don't want to be right. So go ahead and kill her, but you will lose your only son."

My parents looked between me and (Y/N).

"Choose now. It's either you kill her and lose me, or release her and drop the law about royals being forced to marry royals."

My parents thought long and hard about it.

"......... Release the girl."

The moment she was released, we all ran to her to see if she was okay.

" Attention all. The rule of royals marrying royals... Will officially be lifted soon.... "

Cheers erupted from the silent crowd as I hugged the love of my life.

"I told you everything would be fine. I would never let anything happen to you. I love you, (Y/N)."

"I love you too, Shadow." She smiled her beautiful smile and I swooped down to kiss her gently.

My POV

Shadow and (Y/N) were happily married and had two beautiful children, a son and a daughter. Together, the four of them went on countless adventures as the children grew up into independent youth and their parents couldn't be happier.
