Shadow X Reader - You Can't Force Love

Chapter 9 - R.I.P.

"Gawain, what's wrong?" Shadow asked in worry. Oh no...

Sir Gawain looked at me, "It's about your mother..."

No more words needed to be spoken. Shadow got the carriage arranged immediately and got all four of us there. Mom... My mom... It can't be...

Shadow saw my distressed state and grasped my hand, squeezing it lightly. Tears had already made way into my eyes, no matter how hard I tried to repress them.

We got to the house and Sonic had the door opened already, welcoming us with ear-filled eyes. We rushed over to Mom's bed. "Mom!"

I gasped at her appearance. It was worse than before. She looked pale as ever and the bags under her eyes had become darker and bigger. Sonia and Manic were already at her bedside, clinging to each other. "Mom..."

"(Y/N), sweet girl... you came..."

I nodded and tears fell down. "Mom... Don't worry, you'll be just fine, alright? We... we can... we can get some more medicine for you...!"

Mom just smiled sadly and said, "I'm sorry, baby, but medicine won't help me anymore... You know that... There's nothing we can do..."

Sonia and Manic we're trying to comfort each other while Shadow was trying to comfort me and Sonic.

Mom saw Shadow, Lacey and Declan and smiled at them. Her eyes rest on Declan, and after a few minutes, she recognized him with a smile that was close to reaching her eyes. "Oh, Declan... It's been so long..."

Declan smiled back. "I was hoping to see you again, but... I didn't want it to be like this..."

"I know, but this is inevitable... "

All of us either had tears in our eyes or we were crying. What kind of daughter am I? My mom is dying and I was barely there for her, to help her or do anything, even for my siblings.

"Shadow, Declan, Princess Lacey... Please... Take care of (Y/N) for me... please..."

Shadow answered for all three of them, tears falling slowly from his eyes, "Of course... We will definitely take care of her for you..."

Then Mom looked at all of us; her children, the only things she has left before her spirit leaves her.

"Sonic, (Y/N), Manic, Sonia... Please... Look out for one another.... Don't dwell over my death..."

"Mom, you're not gonna die... We can do something to help you...!"

"Sonic, I already told you, there's nothing you can do anymore... Just, babies, remember this... for a long as you live: I'll always be with you, in your hearts... and never forget.... that I will always... love you all... forever..." and with that final sentence said, Mom took her last breath, smiled at all of us, and closed her eyes, never to open them again...

All of us were in tears and my siblings and I all began to panic.

"Mom...?! Mom?! MOM!!!"

"Mom, wake up...! Wake up, please!!!"

"We need you...! Come back to us!!"

"You can't leave us now!! We still needed more time...!!!"

This can't be happening... Our mother is gone... forever...

Manic, Sonic and Sonia were all sobbing together in a group while Shadow, Lacey and Declan all tried doing their best to comfort me. As much as they tried, nothing could fill the hole in my heart, the place that was only kept for my dear mother, who was now longer with us...

I looked over at my mother and broke away from Shadow, Lacey and Declan's hug to make my way to her lifeless body. I gently ran my fingers down her face and cupped her cheek, holding it as if she were a fragile glass doll. My tears fell onto the bed as my hand trembled. I lifted the blanket and rested it over her face.

"Good night... Mom... We love you..." I cried, my voice cracking at the end.

I felt Sonic's hand on my shoulder and I cried with him, with Manic and Sonia joining us. I saw Shadow, Lacey and Declan all watching us with eyes filled with sadness, sympathy and grief.

I said goodbye to my siblings and left the house that once had life in it. My siblings now have to fend for themselves and I'm staying in the castle, unable to do anything... I'm a horrible human being...

Shadow's POV

We bid farewell to Lacey and Declan. Before they left, they embraced (Y/N) in a soft hug, telling her everything would be just fine. But I knew what was going on inside her head. She was slowly breaking down, getting harder and harder to fix back up into who she was before.

I took her into my room, and that's when she didn't hold back her cries of agony. I brought her face to my chest and let her cry as much as she needed to.

"What am I going to do...? My brothers, my sister... They have to take care of themselves now..."

"Don't worry about it, alright? I'll send someone to check on them everyday to make sure they're doing okay."

"Thanks..."

I wrapped my arms around her as she slowly stopped crying.

"I'm a horrible person... I left my family all alone when they needed support..."

"Shh.... Don't say that about yourself. You are not a horrible person. If anything, you are strong and brave for helping them when you could. That's pretty amazing."

I saw her smile a tiny bit. Suddenly, she laid still in my arms. I peeked at her face to find that she was asleep. Looks like she exhausted herself out. I smiled to myself and laid her on my bed, pulling the blanket over her and taking her shoes off. She still had her dress on, but she was too deep asleep to even worry. I leaned down and gently kissed her lips. I got into the bed with her and pulled the blankets over us, while making sure she was comfortable. I wrapped my arms around her from behind and smiled again. After a few minutes, I closed my eyes and finally let sleep take over me.
