"What am I doing here?" I ask myself as I hop out of the truck.
After the infamous meeting with my newly discovered twin sister (still can't believe it), she left and with irony aside, took MY date with her. I can't believe it. I've always wanted a sister and the first thing she does is betray me and steal my guy.
My guy? Do I really want Ethan, more than I want a more famous and credible name such as Shane or even Ayden? Ethan seems so sweet, Ayden would rip him to shreds. But Ethan...
"So, I guess this is where the date ends," Ricky says as he jumps onto the curb leading up to the brick Colonial. Her house looks cozy, the kind of house in the suburbs with the mini van parked in the driveway and a nice porch in the front, sitting on it in the summer and drinking a nice iced tea. "I had a nice time." I stay silent. "So...," Then I realize he has nothing to say. He's nervous. Duh. I'm Jade Winters. "I guess I'll see you in school, then," he shrugs casually. I stare at him dumb-founded. Who does he think I am?
"Wait, what?"
"School?" he repeats. Then I remember. Ah.
"See you in school, then," I quickly recover. I feel my Sidekick buzz in my purse, and I look down. He steps closer.
"Wait," he says.
I've had kisses before. Ayden and I shared quite a few passionate moments, Shane and I, and on top of those, I've been in movies ranging from sexy to Listerine-needed kisses. He leans down and plants a soft, gentle kiss. Not enough for full-on, passionate make out, but enough to call a kiss. I gradually kiss him back. His lips are warm, tasting like the chocolate chip cookies my housekeeper, Josie, makes. He pulls away, but still close enough our noses are touching. He lightly kisses my forehead and steps back.
"I'll see you tomorrow." He hops in his truck and speeds off. I stand on the sidewalk, looking after him, still feeling the warmth of the kiss. Then I slowly turn around to face the brick house with white shutters and walk up the stone pathway.
I lift my hand to knock on the door, but the door magically opens by itself. Except not magically, but on the other side, reveals a tall girl, looking about my age, but with twice the amount of make-up I have on.
"Ugh, Mads, your sister is home from her date," the girl snarls.
"C'mon, Mindy, Ethan didn't dump you for her," another girl comes to the door. "He wouldn't go after someone so pathetic." Ouch. That hurt. I roll my eyes. Mindy. Ethan....he mentioned he had a girlfriend. That he dumped. For me.
"At least I know when to stop with the shadow," I mumble. Mindy squints her eyes at me. She rolls her eyes and pushes past me down the steps. I walk inside the brick house with white shutters and come to see an open room with a girl that looks like the Mindy girl, but a little older.
"What are you doing back so soon?" she asks. "How was your date with Rick?" I snap out of my train of thoughts and come back to reality.
"Good, just tired, that's all," I wave her off with my hand. She steps aback.
"Well, I'm going to bed. Mom and Dad are home," she says, already halfway up the stairs. I watch her go up the stairs and then start to follow her, hoping to find some answers. Still halfway shocked. I follow footsteps in the nearest door on the left, and a door slam. I twist open the knob to find Madelyn there. "What the hell are you doing?" she bellows.
"Um, trying to find my room?" I say innocently, putting on my best good girl smile. She gives me a look.
"It's the room next to mine, always has been, always will, dumbo," she rolls her eyes. "Now. Get. Out. Of. My Room." She slams the door in my face and I stare at it for the longest time. Then I pick myself up and walk down the hall, to the nearest door on the left. I twist it open and I gasp suddenly. It's...green. It's like, really green. A light green, such as a summer grassy field. I plop myself down on the bed in the center of the room, and look around. Other than a messy desk with books strewn across it, the room looks pretty...bland. I swivel my torso around on the bed to face an open laptop. A desktop picture flashes between my eyes of a girl that looks just like me with what looks like two close friends...one of them being Ethan. I sigh. Ethan. I left him. I left him with that girl. However, it does look like she's friendzoning his ass.
