Savannah's phone lights up before letting out the basic chimes. She lifts the remote to mute the T.V before hesitantly sitting up, leaving my right side cold.
She answers the phone, "Yeah?"
I set my empty Cup Noodles cup on the nightstand that sits to my left. I drone out Savannah's conversation as I stretch and check my own phone for the time.
Five in the morning. Great.
Savannah and I talked. We talked about everything. The big things and the little things. In the end, I decided to bring home to Savannah. We've both been dealing with stress and anxiety, so a day to just relax sounded best. I drew her a bath before driving to the closest gas station and stocking up on the cup ramen she talks so fondly of.
When I returned Savannah was dressed in my pajamas, which I didn't mind. I only laughed before showing her my buyings and flipping the channel to ABC, hoping to catch the re-runs of Grey's Anatomy. In the end, Savannah was pleased with my thoughtfulness, but I was too tired to soak in my own pride.
She insisted we cuddled. I argued, but she won in the end of course. Things were going way too sappy for my liking. My pajamas and cuddling? Ew.
But it keeps her happy.
I snap out of my daze to find Savannah's panic struck face staring at me. My eyes widen as I mouth "what?"
"Okay. Yes, we'll be there. Yes, you've told me a million times. I know the address. Okay," She goes silent before muttering a goodbye. She drags the phone away from her ear, never breaking eye contact with me. "He's close. It's happening," her face hardens, "today."
I nod slowly, "Okay. Are you going to be alright?"
"I'm fine. I'm going to be fine," she leans over to wrap her arms around me, "I'm going to be better when this is over with."
"You don't have to do this," I mutter into her hair.
She pulls away, "I just want to do it even more every time you tell me that. I know what I'm getting myself into. I know what I have to do. I know the consequences and I know the risks."
I nod, "I know... when?"
"When what?"
I run my fingers through my hair, "When will he be there? When are we supposed to be there?"
She sighs, "He thinks I've convinced you to go exploring in this abandoned house. It sits in the middle of nowhere... it's completely isolated."
"I know, Savannah. I asked when," I reply calmly.
"I know what you asked," She snaps, "I want you to know what he knows. Why he chose this location and what he thinks you know."
I nod, "Okay. His choice of location only makes it that much easier for us."
"Correct. He wants to be there first. He'll be there at six and not one minute later. He's very precise and doesn't like being late," she gives me a look that's supposed to tell me to take notes.
"Got it. When is he expecting us?"
"Six thirty," she pauses, "and not one second later."
I give a slight nod, "Is there anything else?"
"I'm going to tell you exactly what he knows. I want you to know everything that he thinks is going to happen. Okay?"
I sit up and get comfortable before nodding, "Alright."
