Connor had reactivated himself a few hours later, set inside some sort of garden area with nothing of reality in sight. Trees, flowers, and even a small gazebo cover the land that was new to the android. Connor could sense no sign of humanity aroun him, except for a woman who sat on a bench inside the lightly colored gazebo. He slowly paced towards her after exploring the small area that seemed to be a utopia. She turned around to face him, showing a serious expression. Connor's mind seemed to recognize her, even figuring out her name was Amanda, though his mortality couldn't quite make out her identity.
"Hello, Connor. Welcome back to the Zen Garden." She stated, showing nearly no emotion with her monotonous voice and facial expressions. Amanda had said that implying that he had been there before, although Connor could not recall any memory of being in the garden.
"Hello Amanda, thank you."
"So I see you and your partner have been making progress on the deviancy case, what do you think of him?"
"Hank? Well," he paused, thinking of the best approach to what he wanted to say. "we didn't get off to a good start at first, but I'd say we're getting along better now."
"Is that so? What about the deviant you and him recently captured?" Amanda asked that, referring to Kara.
"She seems nice. I've understood her intentions for the homicide; she was just trying to protect the little girl, who was being abused by her father."
"Oh? Even if it is so, there were better ways to handle the situation." She responded using a condescending tone. "You two do seem to get along VERY well, almost as though you are exhibiting emotions yourself, Connor. Don't tell me you are becoming a deviant."
Connor put on a bewildered expression, doubting her words and putting her thoughts to rest. "No, Amanda. I'm simply just doing my job and gaining their trust, as well as Hank's." "Please, do not doubt me as so again."
She gave a pitiful smile and turned her nose up. "Well, don't let this interfere with your investigation. Speaking of, I should let you get back to that, Connor." Amanda turned her back towards the android and paid farewell. Within a flash, Connor seemed to be back in reality, sitting on the floor, with Kara on his shoulder. He scanned the room to make sure everything was the same as it had been the night before. Alice was still resting peacefully on the couch, and Sumo laid silently, barely moving besides his breathing, on a blanket set upon the floor. For some reason he couldn't quite explain, he felt a sensation of fear flush through his machinery, as if something was wrong.
Hank exited his bedroom in a plaid button down shirt with his usual jacket over it, whistling to an unfamiliar tune. Seeing Connor gazing at him with Kara leaning on his shoulder, he gave a small chuckle before greeting the android.
"Mornin' Connor. How'd you, ehm, rest?" He couldn't quite figure out the correct words to say, seeing as Androids can't actually sleep.
Connor contemplated his speech before responding, trying to understand the best way to explain what happened. "I 'rested' alright, I suppose. I woke up in some sort of garden, however, with this woman I didn't recognize, though I knew her name."
Hank, confused, gave a short-answer. "How peculiar, I didn't know you machines could dream."
"That's the thing," he paused. "We can't, I think it was real." Connor looked at him with serious eyes, trying to get him to believe him. "Anyway, when are we heading out to the investigation site?" Kara's eyes fluttered open as she slowly got off of his shoulder and looked around the room to recall her surroundings.
"Good morning Kara. We're probably going to leave in about an hour, but first we're gonna have to drop off these two ladies at the station, just to make sure they don't make a run for it." Hank laughed a bit at that, not knowing that was their actual plan. Kara waved back at him and looked over at Alice, afterwards getting up to wake the sleeping child up. She gently shook her awake and smiled at her tired face.
Alice rubbed her eyes and greeted Kara with her soft, raspy voice. She reached up to hug her and looked at Connor as well. He walked up to her and wrapped his hefty arms around the young girl. She squeezed tightly as if she had been scared of something.
"Hey, are you okay Alice? You seem shaken up.""I'm fine, I just had a bad dream." Her voice was slightly shaky, she must have really been scared.
"What was it about, if you are okay with me asking?" Connor inquired, hoping to be able to soothe the girl.
She paused for a second and looked at Kara, then back to the Male android. "You got hit by a car Connor, and Kara went to go to try save you and she got hit, and I was all alone." Small tears flowed from her puffy eyes. "I didn't know what to do, so I ran to you guys and I got hit. Then it ended.."
Connor's eyes widened as he stared at the girl, in disbelief that such a young mind could create something so morbid. He hugged her once more as his voice changed to a more soothing tone. "Alice, I promise that will never happen. Kara is going to take care of you forever, and never leave you alone."
She slowly stopped crying and looked up at Connor. "But what about you? Are you going to leave us?"
He didn't know what to say, so he looked towards Hank and Kara for guidance. Recieving no helpful assistance from them, he just offered his best reassurance for her. "I'll try my best to stay with you."
Alice held out her hand and stuck up her pinkie, giving puppy-dog eyes towards Connor. "Do you promise?"
He smiled and interlocked his much larger in comparison finger with the young girl's. "I promise."
