The rain was falling down in a sporadic fashion, landing on the ground to create dense puddles that covered the concrete. The grey clouds hid the sunbeams as they scattered the earth, making the environment feel dingy and somewhat depressing, very fitting for a day after a murder. It was the morning after Kara had evaded Todd's clutches, barely making it out alive with his young daughter, Alice, by her side. She felt weak and exhausted after wrestling with the large, erratic man, whose short temper and drug addiction had gotten himself killed. Kara had definitely regretted shooting the one who had claimed her as his property, who essentially hired her as a maid. She did know, however, that it probably was for the better. She just couldn't help feeling guilty, thinking there could have been another way to safely escape with Alice.
Alice and Kara had slept inside of an abandoned car, hidden in one of Detroit's many dark alleyways. Before reaching the car and deciding to sleep there, they had encountered another Android who informed Kara of a location across town where Androids could be assisted. Kara wanted to sleep inside the nearby motel, but without clothes to mask her uniform or money, there was no way for her and Alice to do so. They could have acquired such items by stealing, though even as an android, you have some morals. Kara peered outside of the car's window, staring at the raindrops fall from the sky. She exhaled heavily, then scanned the temperature outside.
Hmmm. 43° It shouldn't be horrible for Alice in these conditions.
Trying to avoid waking the young girl up, Kara gently nudged her off of her shoulder, placing her head onto the seat. She stepped out of the vehicle and began searching around for anything useful. She was able to pry open the car's trunk using a crowbar she had found nearby, revealing a pair of scissors and a large coat. Knowing she'd probably be recognized by her features, Kara held the scissors up to her hair and began cutting, giving herself a nice Pixie haircut. She tapped into her android customization settings and changed her hair color to a blonde shade. She then jabbed the end of the scissors into her LED and removed it from her temple, removing the main indicator that she was in fact an Android. . After putting on the coat, she walked back over to where Alice was and shook her.
"Alice, it's time to wake up. It's me, Kara." She whispered quietly, tapping the young girl's shoulder, which was shivering from her wet clothes that were soaked from the previous night.
Alice rubbed her dark brown eyes with her tiny hands and looked up at Kara. "So it wasn't just a bad dream.." She sighed, then noticed her hair. "I really like your hair like that, it really makes you look like a human!"
Kara smiled and helped Alice out of the vehicle, stepping over to the exit of the alleyway. Kara grabbed another jacket she had found and wrapped it around Alice to keep her warm. She took a quick scan around them and spotted police officers scoping the area, asking people if they had seen where Kara and Alice were. She quickly went back into the alley and kneeled to Alice's level.
"Alice, they are looking for us. I need you to be very quiet and just follow my lead, alright?" Kara explained, whispering in a panic.
Alice nodded in response. Kara grabbed her hand and inconspicuously pulled her out of the alley, ready to face whatever would happen while they were outside, surrounded by people looking for them.
