I didn't need to go into work today so getting up was pointless. I spent an hour just lying in my bed and staring at the ceiling, thinking about nothing. I tried to find something worth painting or sketching but nothing was attention grabbing. Everything suddenly seemed dull to me, like the world had lost all of its color.

I moved around my apartment like a zombie, shuffling from place to place. I tried watching tv but nothing was quite as entertaining as I hoped, I felt like nothing was quite as satisfying today as it was yesterday. Nothing quite as bitter sweet as his presence.

I huffed, standing up from my spot on the couch and grabbing my phone. I immediately began searching for Luke's contact profile. He'd conveniently put about a million emojis by his name.

I pressed the call button, putting the phone up to my ear. Getting eager as the pattern of rings began, the feeling I get just by thinking about Luke began in the pit of my stomach.

After the third ring the sound of Luke's voice filled my ears, he sounded groggy like I've just woken him up.

"Hello?"

I peered out blinds, admiring the overcast sky. Hoping for the chance of thunder, I closed my curtains and sat back down in the couch.

"Get on your swimsuit and meet me down here in ten." I commanded, keeping the tone in my voice unreadable.

"Why?" He asked.

I rolled my eyes, trying to be spontaneous for once was going to be difficult with him asking questions.

"Just do it." I whined.

Without saying another word, I hung up and changed into my bathing suit that I hadn't used all summer. It took about five minutes before Luke was pounding on my door. I put a shirt and some shorts over my bathing suit before answering the door.

Luke had that confused look on his face, or perhaps he was just tired. Either way he looked like how he left yesterday.

"Wanna tell me what's going on?" He asked, walking into my apartment with absolutely no regards.

I grabbed his hand and he seems surprised by my gesture, like the idea of me touching him is foreign.

"Nope."

I pull him out the front door, locking it behind us. I continued to drag him down the hall, through the lobby and straight into my car.

The whole ride consisted of us arguing on which radio station it should be set on and Luke constantly asking me variations of the same exact question. I finally set it on his station just so he would shut up. When we finally got there, Luke seemed totally unaffected like he had predicted coming to the beach all along.

Only few people were scattered along the shore and even fewer surfers were out in the water. The grey sky made the water turn a darker shade of blue, like it was on the verge of being black.

The only sounds were that of the seagulls calling out in the air and waves pummeling the darker sand near the water.

The sand didn't feel as hot as it normally would, my toes were curling up in it, playing with it kind of.

The breeze set in and sent chills down my spine. Luke walked behind me, still looking confused although there's was no reason to be. I looked out at the water, ready to jump in. My eyes went back over my shoulder at Luke who seemed like he already knew what I was thinking.

•Luke's POV•

The closer we got to the water the colder I got. I wouldn't show how freezing I was to Paige but something told me she was too.
