Daylight peeked through the closed blinds in Luke's bedroom. The light rays striking my face at just the right angle to awake me. I blink a couple of times before my vision became clear, the room just as it was before, except for the items of clothing that littered the floor. The only thing covering me was his thin bed sheet, I turn my head over to Luke. He lays on his stomach with his arms up underneath his pillow, his face is also lit up by the sun but not as much as mine was. His smirk from the previous night still played out on his lips.
His hair flattened against the pillow and all I wanted to do was stay there in the bed spend all day admiring him, he just seemed so peaceful in his sleep like he was always having a good dream.
My eyes slowly moved down from his face to his uncovered back, every muscle was defined and on display for my viewing pleasure, I was tempted to touch him but I didn't want to wake him up.
Stretching my arms out, I crawled out of the bed careful not make to much noise. I slipped back into my panties and clasped my bra back into place, last nights events still fresh in mind. As I remember them, my cheeks heat up and I could see my cheeks turning a shade of red.
I tiptoe across the carpet to Luke's dresser, pulling out one of his famous sleeveless shirts with the phrase ' I Don't Trust Me Either', a skeleton hand graphic in between the print. I put it over my head and I already know its ill-fitting, the hem stops about an inch below my ass and the arm holes hangs low enough so that my bra and rib cage is visible.
I throw my messy hair back into a sloppy ponytail, seeing as I have no one to impress. I open the door just enough so that I may slip out and close it behind me, I walk quickly through the hall and into the living room, looking at the mess we made. Bowls, cups, plates and pans are still out in the kitchen, blankets are on the floor and couch.
My nostalgia cuts off at the sound of light knocking on the door, as if whoever is there is almost scared to knock.
Not giving a shit about what I look like and what I'm wearing, I swing the rather heavy door open to the empty hallway and the girl standing in the doorway.
Both of us take a moment to scan one another up and down, Her hair was a dull blonde color that looked quite ratty, her dark blue eyes looked judgmental and cold for such a young person. What really grabbed my attention was the sign of bags under her eyes covered by makeup and the defined cheek bones that made her face look narrow. She looked like one of those kids you'd see on the back of a milk carton.
Whoever she was, she probably had the wrong address. I leaned carelessly on the door frame, a habit of Luke's that had rubbed off on me.
"We don't want any girl scout cookies, but thanks for stopping by." I say with my best fake smile, already starting to close the door when her voice piped up.
"I'm not a girl scout! " she shouted as if I couldn't hear her, "But I would like to know who you are and why you're in Luke's apartment. "
The last part grabbed my attention. I opened the door wider again and squinted my eyes at her.
"Look kid, I don't know who you are or how you know Luke but I suggest you go back home unless you want me to call your mom or something."
Her expression change at my last few words, her lips forming a straight line.
"I'm Charlotte, Luke's sister and you are? " She fired back at me with almost too much attitude for one person.
I bit my bottom lip, Luke did mention a sister but he never gave me a name or a face.
After a moment of thinking and rethinking about it, I could see she was getting bored with me.
"I'm uh, Paige.... Luke's girlfriend. "
I gulped, dropping my attitude, I hadn't been anyone's girlfriend in so long that it felt weird referring to myself as that.
She had the 'ohhhh' look on her face as she nodded in response.
"Oh yeah, he mentioned something about you but he didn't say you were his girlfriend."
Pushing past me she walked into the apartment, looking at the scene just as I had been doing before.
"Well, Paige.... Looks like we're gonna have to play nice for him, so let me start over, I'm Charlotte. "
She stuck out her hand for me to shake, a smile plastered onto her pale lips.
She's saying to much all at once and it's to early for me to comprehend what she means.
"How old are you?! " I furrow my eyebrows, putting my hands on my back, stretching.
"Old enough to know what happened here last night. " she smiled as she nodded in approval.
I felt the need to covered myself as she said these words.
She made herself comfortable as she plopped down on the couch, something Luke did constantly while at my apartment.
I was still incredibly confused as she dug into the cushions, pulling out the TV remote and began to flick through the channels.
"Y-You said you were Luke's sister? " I yawn, sitting on the other end of the couch.
"Uh-huh" she nodded as she continued on through the Chanel's.
She frowned, her eyes shifting from the TV to the floor. As I watched her expression change drastically I noticed she looked sickly, the makeup she wore to cover the bags under her eyes wasn't strong enough to hide everything. Her fingers were thin and bone-y looking. The way her shoulders slumped made her look tired and weak.
"We, uh-we came from the same foster home. Luke practically raised me, he's like my big brother-the only real family I've got. " She sounded scared, her voice was quiet and innocent.
But it sparks so many questions in my head, why would Luke feel the need to lie to me about his family.
"He said his parents were-" I began but she cut me off quickly,
"He doesn't have parents, well he HAD parents but they gave him up and he was never adopted." There was anger in her words as she practically hissed them at me.
I opened my mouth to respond but someone else's voice took my place.
"Charlie? "
I recognized Luke's groggy voice, I turned around to see him standing in the hallway, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. As they landed on me they widened.
"I can explain. "
