'try harder'

Naruto's POV

I looked out the window watching a bird glide by. I felt something bonk my head. Looking on my desk and I saw a stick of chalk. As I turned my attention to the front of the class sensei said,"Naruto. Stop zoning out and pay attention." everyone laughed.

I rubbed my neck sheepishly,"Ah. Gomen, Kakashi-sensei."

"Now...As I was saying the..."

I'm Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze and in year one at Sarutobi Academy. As you could tell from what just happened I'm the laughing stock of the class. I'm also failing and I don't have any friends either.

The bell rung.

"Lunch. Don't be late."

I took out Gama-chan from my bag and checked his contents . Stuffing him in my pocket I began walking out when Kakashi stopped me,"Naruto, let's talk." I followed him to the teachers office and he sat at his desk,"Naruto...You really need to get your grades up. Not only is it bad for your GPA but Tsunade-san will get mad" I knew he was frowning even though his mask was covering his face.

"...I know."

"I've been telling you to try harder...Do you not want to?"

I looked away and sighed. It's not that I don't want to do anything...I just can't.

"Naruto it's only been a few months into school and you're failing. You barely passed middle school and at this rate you will be-"

"I said I know!" the teachers around us became quiet,"...I'm gonna go eat.." I walked to the bread stalls outside. After buying a sandwich, and a soda from the vending machine I sat on the bench in front of the machine and started eating. I'm the only one here in the shade. It's lucky that I was able to get this spot to myse- I heard some guys laughing and coming my way. Ignore them.

I did just that and continued eating. They passed me and when I thought I was safe one of them hit my hand and made me drop my sandwich,"Oops. Sorry~" he stepped on it as he and his friends walked away laughing.

I picked up the sandwich and sighed."Needed the minerals anyways...Bastard." I sadly cleaned it up, took off the top slice of bread, and finished eating it. Throwing away the cling wrap it came in afterwords.

I opened my soda and took a sip. After a while the bell rang and I downed my drink.

During class as we were all doing our work Kakashi passed out tests from last week. When he got to me he handed my test to me face down. 47%

Class ended,"Stand. Bow. See you tomorrow." I grabbed my bag and stood at Kakashi's desk, waiting for him to pack his things,"Let's go." he eye smiled. We walked to the parking lot and got into the car,"What do you want for dinner?"

"Food."

"Naruto...Are you still mad?"

"No." I folded my arms and looked out the window.

"Naruto, don't be like that." I glared out the window,"I'm not pushing you to be mean. I'm pushing you because I want what's best for you. Tsunade and I both do."

He continued driving and soon pulled up to the house. I got out of the car, walked inside, and went straight to my room. I locked the door and dropped my bag on the ground. Flopping onto my bed I sighed once again.

I took the picture frame off my nightstand,"Hey dad. I just got back from school...I'm failing. I know, I know. You want me to try harder...You're disappointed, aren't you?" Not going to get an answer I placed the photo back and cocooned myself in my blankets. Everyone says to try harder. I've been trying all this time...
