My eyes fluttered open only to be met with darkness. I blinked a few times to adjust my eyes and once they were adjusted, I realized I wasn't alone.
A tall figure stood above me but that was all I got to figuring out who the figure was, well, until he spoke. "About time you woke up." I recognized that voice from the man in the red tie. He sounded like he was trying to sound bored, but ended up sounding more tired than anything.
I tried to stand and get away from him but found both my arms and feet were tied with a rough rope, so tightly I could feel burns forming. Almost instantly, memories sprang at me of him.
"Yup, you're tied up. Not so slick now, huh?!" he sneered. Jealous much? He sighed, "Don't worry, it's just until I find my brother and I can't do that without you." he said softer, sounding pained.
"How am I supposed to do that?" I asked with a hoarse voice from lack of water.
"You followed him around even while I was searching for him." he explained.
"Not 24-7."
"Longer than I've ever known him." he whispered just loud enough for me to barely make out, even then with major difficulty.
"Can I be untied?" I asked, feeling the uncomfortable burns deepen with every tiny movement made.
I barely made out him nodding before he shuffled closer and cut my ropes free and helping me up. "I'm Derrick, by the way." he said once I was up right.
I sighed. "I know, I did work your brother's case and I didn't necessarily follow him around. I was one out of two agents sent as protection for him from several gangs after him for one reason I don't think I'm allowed to share, even with his family." I explained and waited for his response.
He was silent a few moments and then he took me by the shoulder and guided me through a maze of walls and through a door that led a lit up room.
There sat all the men from our first encounter, who all nodded and seemed like they wanted to say something but didn't get the chance, because we kept moving onward and down another hall.
He stopped infront of a door and pulled out a jingling set of keys before unlocking it and guiding me in, closing and locking the door behind him.
When I saw what was in the room, I could only imagine what thoughts were going through the other guys' minds right now, knowing where he led us to.
In the room was a queen sized bed with grey and blue sheets and pillows. Next to it on each side was a metal night stand with blue lamps that sat neatly in the center of both the night stands. In one corner was a door that led to what seemed to be a bathroom, and opposite of that was a door that led to a closet. Next to the bathroom was a tall five drawer dresser, and on top were a few pictures of Derrick and Joshua with several different settings. Next to the closet was a desk littered with maps and papers, showing evidence of this brother's attempts in searching for his little brother, like the rest of the room.
"The room is sound proof, so it's safe to tell me everything without being overheard. So, what is it?" he asked anxiously, eyes wide, and nails being bitten as he stared at me, awaiting his answers.
"I told you, I shouldn't tell you. It's classified and I don't want to get in trouble." I explained, looking him straight in the face as I said this, hoping to get the message across. I learned soon this didn't work... at all.
His face got serious instead of anxious in seconds and he cornered me, quickly blocking me in using his arms while he all but yelled, "WHY DID HE NEED PROTECTION???!! WHAT WAS AFTER HIM? WHO WAS AFTER HIM?!" I shook my head, images flashing a mile a minute of what happened that night with him, as I awaited the blow.
