Jason's pov

Brantley convinced me to go fishing with him. And I gotta say, as much as I was afraid to, I'm glad I did. I hadn't felt that calm in a while. I got back home. "Catch anything?" "Nothin' big. But it was relaxing." She smiles. I sit beside her. I sigh. Tomorrow is my little brother's funeral. It's going to be very tough to handle. I'm just glad Carl didn't suffer in that blasted maze. I sigh sadly. "Thinking about tomorrow?" Miranda asks, laying her head on my shoulder. I nod holding her outstretched hand. "I'm so sorry what you're going through." "I'm just glad to have you." I say, tired.

*The next day*

I fight back the tears when I see my brave and kind little brother. I shakily walk to the casket with my girl by my side. I place a rose on the casket. "Fly high little brother." She holds my hand. Then my dad walks over, his face soaked with silent tears. "I can't believe this." He whispers. "What happened wasn't your fault dad. You were brainwashed." He sighs. "I can't believe.... What I did...." He covers his eyes. "I don't blame you dad. I'm just so glad you're home." I say, putting one arm around his shaking shoulders. A priest delivers a eulogy. I fight back the nausea as I walk with my brothers in arms to do the 21 gun salute. "You were a brave man, Carl." Brantley pats my back. "You're a brave man too, Jase." I swallow the nerves and ready my gun. My hands were shaking sightly though, just from how emotional I feel. "You okay to do this?" I slowly nod, afraid my voice would betray me. "We can get someone else?" "N-No. I... I've g-got to do th-this... I've got to... F-F-For Carl." I wipe the tears from my face as everyone else gets into position and Mike gives the command. Me and the guys fire off 3 rounds. I shakily drop the weapon and fall to my knees, the pain of losing Carl unbearable. Brantley was beside me, his hands on my shoulders. "Come on man." "J-Just gimme a minute." I just want to scream and say every curse word in the fucking book. I'm so upset. I struggle to my feet with the help of Brant and Miranda. I just want this day to be over. "Goodbye, Carl. It was one hell of an amen." I break down sobbing against my wife's shoulder.
