Chapter 2

*Calley*

When I saw the boy that I had run into in the hallway staring at me in the parking lot, I had to roll my eyes. I had been staring at him first, but that's beside the point. He was, well, odd. We all were. But him, more so than others. He wouldn't tell anyone what Fantasy creature he was, which just made the teachers mad, and made all the kids want to cheer him on.

My friend Liz walked up to me. She's a Shape-Shifter too, though her main Form is a wolf, while mine is a panther.

"So Calley. What do you think of the new kid?" she asked.

"He's annoying," I said, watching him climb into a car with his mother. Liz and I watched the car pull away and start driving to the Fantasy Hill neighbor hood. I secured my backpack on my shoulders and started running. "Let's go!"

Liz and I were running full out as we shifted into our panther and wolf Forms. After that I easily pulled ahead of her. She was always on my tail, quite literally. When we passed the car that had the new kid in it, I could've sworn that he looked out the window at us, but we sped ahead of the car to quickly for me to actually figure it out.

Soon Liz and I were at my house so we changed back to our Human Forms. We smiled at each other. We loved racing the cars home. We normally beat them, unless the cars knew we were racing them, then we normally tied.

"Are we still on for terrorizing the normal people tonight?" I asked.

"Definitely," Liz replied, "Last time was so funny! You totally scared that grown man when you raced across his path as that tiger! Or when you hid in that one woman's house as a skunk!"

We burst out laughing. It was so hilarious when we scared normal people; they had no clue what they were dealing with. But, we had to be careful. There have been a few times when Animal Control had almost caught us. We haven't been caught yet, and my mother said that if we did, she wasn't helping us out of it.

"I'll see you tonight," I told her, "The Park, at midnight."

She nodded. "I'll be there."

We split and I walked into my house. My mother was busy making dinner, though it seemed like she was making a lot for the two of us.

"I met the new family," she told me. "The parents are Vampires, but they wouldn't tell me what their son was. I assume you met him at school."

I nodded. "I met him alright. Plowed him down in the hallway."

"I invited them over for dinner," she said.

"WHAT!" I yelled, letting my backpack slip off my back and hit the floor with a hollow THWACK sound. "YOU DID WHAT!"

"You'll be nice to them, I don't want there to be any problems, or you're grounded."

"That's so unfair," I said, "He's and idiot! Not to mention annoying!" I kicked my backpack and stormed up to my room. My mother was used to this kind of behavior from me, it was far from unusual.

I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and dialed Liz's number. I switched on my computer and waited for it to fully load.

"Calley, what's up?" Liz asked

"My mom invited the new kid and his family over for dinner," I said, using one hand to type 'Natural Human Behavior' into my search engine on my computer. "I don't have any choice but to go and be good, or my mother will ground me."

"That's tough," she replied, "Are you still gonna make it to the park?"

"Duh," I said, leaning close to my computer screen and clicking on a link, "I would never miss it. Even if I have to leave early from dinner."

"Sweet."

"What are you planning to go as tonight?" I asked her. "I think I'll go as a bear. There have been a few reported sightings of a huge brown bear around the neighbor hood close to us."

"I was thinking... maybe I would go as a giant rattlesnake."

I laughed. "That's nice!" I told her, "You should definitely do that!"

She laughed too. "Alright, I gotta go. Mom's yelling at me to get started on my homework."

"Okay, bye."

She hung up and I shut my phone. I placed it next to my computer. Then my mom yelled for me to get changed into something nicer. My school clothes didn't qualify as "nice clothes" for a dinner party.

I looked at the clothes in my closet and ended up putting on a black shirt and a ruffled white skirt. I brushed my hair because it had gotten a bit messed up as I was running home in panther Form.

I walked downstairs and grabbed my bag. "I'm getting started on homework," I said, walking back to my room.

I started my homework and waited for a few hours before I heard my mom say, "Calley, come down here! The new neighbors are here."

I zipped up my backpack and moved to the top of the stairs. This was not going to be a pleasant dinner. I could tell already.

A/N: I finally finished! If you're wondering what took so long (even though you probably aren't) I'll tell you the truth. I was to lazy to get off my arse and type. I'm TheIslandOfSicily and am a co-author with Doglover98 on this project. (which you probably already know.) Check out my account if you like, it would be greatly appreciated!
